NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT
BUILD |
|

BUILD is changing the face of higher education by empowering and supporting high school students from underserved communities. The four-year BUILD curriculum uses entrepreneurship education as the motivator to get students interested in applying to and attending four-year colleges and universities. Their four-year entrepreneurship-focused college preparation program provides real-world experience that empowers youth from under-resourced communities to excel in education, lead in their communities, and succeed professionally. Because their mission is to re-engage students who are underperforming in the education system, they are conscious NOT to skim the most motivated and high-achieving students from low-performing schools, but instead actively seek students who, but for BUILD, might not finish high school and would not consider college as an option. To date, 100% of BUILD's seniors have been accepted into college. Since its inception in 1999, BUILD has served over 700 students and worked with over 350 mentors and volunteers. In 2008-2009, they will serve nearly 600 students in 13 partner public high schools in three metropolitan areas across the United States. By 2010-2011, they expect to serve nearly 1,000 students and 25 partner public high schools in four metropolitan areas with a budget of over $6M. BUILD is currently hiring for a Managing Director and a Director of Individual Giving. |
