  • Winter/Spring Class Schedule Now Online!

Get dramatic this spring with a great class at PYT! The winter/spring class session starts Jan. 25 and includes favorite classes such as "Story Stretchers," "Acting for Fun" and "Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance."

    Willy Wonka Facts and Fun

Did you know that for most of its history, chocolate was only consumed as a beverage? That Roald Dahl didn't start writing children's books until after having five kids of his own? That PYT's production manager, Elisa Olson, stage managed the national tour of Willy Wonka for the Kennedy Center?

These are just some of the things you can learn on PYT's new "Willy Wonka Facts and Fun" page. PYT's education committee has found neat facts about everything to do with the show: a history of chocolate, information about the author and the book, what it's like to be on the road with a touring production, and even ways to test your new knowledge!

Let Us Know What You Think!

PYT is conducting a survey of volunteers to help ensure that your volunteer commitment is as rewarding and efficient as possible. If you've been a volunteer on a PYT production, please take a moment to fill out this 14-question survey and help our production committee ensure that the work of the production is completed while everyone involved has a satisfactory experience.

Teaching Internships Available This Winter and Spring

PYT is seeking teaching interns for the Play in a Box program this winter and spring. This is a great opportunity for teens who are considering a career in teaching. Work and learn with experienced theater professionals in a fun environment.

Play in a Box classes meet one afternoon a week at various local elementary schools. The schedule is flexible. Interns must be at least 15 and have reliable transportation. Previous experience working with children is a plus. This is a volunteer position that can be used to fulfill community service requirements at your high school. For more information, contact Beth McClelland via email at emcclelland@pytnet.org.

    Hollywood Hosts 2010

Gentry Magazine, the Cypress Hotel in Cupertino and Peninsula Youth Theatre will present the annual Hollywood Hosts fundraising event Jan. 31 in the beautiful Cypress Hotel ballroom. This red carpet event will feature gourmet delicacies by local restaurants and live entertainment by PYT performers.

The event is being staged around four delightful tablescapes inspired by favorite movies. One could easily envision Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder hosting a candy-filled fest for Charlie and his familyin the Willy Wonka themed tablescape (by Kathy Goodman, Well Rehearsed www.wellrehearsed.com); Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson fighting over a treasure from Tiffany & Co. (www.tiffany.com) in Bride Wars; or Scarlett using her Southern hospitality to finally win over Rhett's heart in Gone With the Wind (by Katherine Phelps, Vkoos Design, www.vkoosdesign.com). A Bollywood rags-to-riches story is depicted in the Slum Dog Millionaire tablescape (by Brick Monkey, www.brickmonkeyonline.com). The designers and stylists put their imaginations and creativity on overdrive to fashion whimsical and over-the-top vignettes.

"Hollywood Hosts" is also a great opportunity if you have a business that you would like to promote. PYT is seeking wine, handcrafts, sporting event tickets or any other item or service that you would like to donate to our "silver screen" silent auction. Please contact Emily Wu, development director at ewu@pytnet.org or 650-988-8798 extension 305 to discuss your donation.

Through generous donors and participants, the event is sure to be another Hollywood success story! 100% of the proceeds will benefit Peninsula Youth Theatre.
