  • Party with PYT

Celebrate Halloween a day later! Enjoy Food drink and lively entertainment to benefit PYT. Costumes encouraged! Your hosts JoAnn Buchanan and Mary O'Byrne plan to scare up a fabulous time at this evening for PYT moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas! Join us for this day of the dead (or all souls day) party Sat Nov 1 at 7pm at the Buchanan-Smith home in Los Altos. Tickets are $25 per person.

    Construction Update

If you've been at PYT for rehearsals or classes, you'll be seeing the transformation of our studios in process! If everything goes to schedule everything will be finished by the time The Sound of Music loads into the theater in November.

This week our contractor began work on legally required upgrades to our parking lot to make it compliant with the American's with Disabilities Act. The lot nearest the lobby door is impacted, so parking may be more challenging this week - please allow a little extra time if you're parking and staying at PYT during your classes.

Our new costume shop space is being finished this week as well.

Look forward to these and other improvements as the work is completed. We'll be holding a grand re- opening party on December 5 to celebrate - so save the date!

    Tony and Techie Awards 2008

The Youth Advisory Board 2007-08 season PYT Tony and Techie awards were held on Oct. 4 in Los Altos. PYT performers and their families laughed along with Master of Ceremonies Dexter Fidler as awards were presented to performers and volunteers as voted by the PYT community.

Big winners of the evening were:

    • Best Show: "All Shook Up"

    • Best Director: "Miss G" for High School Musical
    • Best Choreographer: Alex Acevedo for "All Shook Up"

Big thanks to JoAnn Buchanan for chairing the event, and to Lyn Wyman and Dana Bolognini for making the evening go off splendidly!

    Pecos Bill Rides to Town

PYT kicks off the 2008-09 season with the world premiere of Pecos Bill and the Ghost Skeletons, written and directed by PYT artistic director Dexter Fidler.

"While I've woven in much of the folklore of Pecos Bill - his horse Widowmaker, Slue-Foot Sue, the terrible Wouser - the story is very much an original show," Fidler shares. " I've tried to use the idea behind Pecos Bill -- the "Tall Tale" -- as a jumping off point for our production. Most of the characters were invented not just for our show, but the specific actors playing them. It's a huge benefit to a writer, to be able to write for actors that you know. I've been asked about the Ghost Skeletons a few times. Don't go looking for them in a Pecos Bill book - they're my own tall tale."

Pecos Bill, that fictional cowboy of American folklore, is the doggone most powerful fellow in the wild west. After falling out of his folks' covered wagon and being raised by coyotes, there ain't no critter Bill can't whoop. But when the folks of Gray Gulch find themselves haunted by a nasty gang of ghost skeletons, has Pecos Bill finally met his match?

Pecos Bill and the Ghost Skeletons plays Friday, Oct. 15 at 9:30am & 11am and Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11:30am & 1:30pm at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.
