| Hollywood Hosts 2008 |
 |
|
For the fourth consecutive year, Gentry Magazine
(www.gentrymagazine.com) and the Stanford
Park Hotel (www.stanfordparkhotel.com) are
presenting Hollywood Hosts, a special event that
benefits Peninsula Youth Theatre. For those who've
attend in years past, you know firsthand how unique
and fun an event this is: It is held in the charming
European courtyard of the Stanford Park Hotel. This is
the only Five Star Diamond-Rated hotel in the Silicon
Valley and San Francisco Peninsula. There isn't a
more beautiful background for this memorable event.
The theme is old Hollywood and this year six design
teams will be creating fabulous tablescapes based
upon one of their favorite movies. These tablescapes
aren't just eye-candy for the evening because guests
have a chance to win everything these creative
designers put on display. Tiffany & Co pays
homage to the bling and glamour of Ocean's
Thirteen. Viscusi Elson Interior Design,
invites you to a gothic feast with their darkly romantic
tablescape inspired by
Phantom of the Opera. The group from
Neiman Marcus at Stanford takes you on an
under the sea adventure with their design inspired by
The Little Mermaid. Leah McIntosh of
Ready to Propose & Ready to Say Yes! was
inspired by two of the most famous lovers in literary
history and the moment when Mr. Darcy proposes to
Elizabeth in Pride and Prejudice.
You'll be stunned by the exquisite details in
The King and I by designer Stephen
DaSilva. Bloomingdale's tablescape
inspired by Scent of a Woman will surely
please the most important lady in your life.
One of the evening's highlights is the local chefs from
restaurants all over the Peninsula who come to share
their gourmet specialties with us. This year, we're
fortunate to have chefs from The Duck Club,
Soleil at Westin Palo Alto, The Poolside
Grill at Sheraton, Izzy's Steaks & Chops,
Classic Residence by Hyatt, Oak City Bar
& Grill and Day Break Gourmet Restaurant &
Catering with French Master Chef Patrick Farjas.
Dessert will be presented by
Bebecakes Cupcakery.

| Thank You Joan |
 |
|
As announced previously, PYT's production manager
Joan Adelman is retiring at the end of the
season.
Joan has been involved with PYT since the very
beginning. Before accepting the position as PYT's
Production Manager, Joan produced numerous
shows and served as Vice-President on the PYT
board of directors. Joan has been instrumental in the
growth and development of PYT, and she will be
deeply missed.
The August 8th performance of All Shook Up is
dedicated to Joan, in honor of the many years she has
given to PYT. Come to that show for an opportunity to
say thank you to Joan for all she has done for PYT.
After a thorough search, PYT has hired
Elisa
Rupert to succeed Joan in the position.
Elisa comes to us with a wealth of experience.
Most recently she has been the company
manager/production stage manager for the 1st
National Tour of The Kennedy Center's production of
Willy Wonka. She was previously the
production manager for Cedar Lake Ensemble, the
production stage manager for TheatreWorks USA,
Entertainment Events, and production manager for
Cabrillo Stage. She has extensive experience working
with children, having been both a vocal director for
children's theater and managing four casts of children
for Monterey Bay Repertory Theatre.
Make sure to say hi when you see her, and make her
feel welcome!

Can't Help "Falling in Love" with All Shook Up! |
|
|
|
The woman who showed the King himself how
to "rock 'n' bop" came to Peninsula Youth Theatre on
July 26 to teach some signature 50's moves to the
teenage cast of All Shook Up, the Broadway
musical inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis
Presley.
In addition to her sassy moves, Kay Wheeler
(center) -- Presley's onetime girlfriend, founder of his
first national fan club and star of the cult classic "Rock
Baby Rock It" - shared her memories of the "hunk
of burning love" and what was like to be a teen in the
mid-1950s, when All Shook Up takes place.
The Rockabilly Hall of Famer lived in Texas back then
and now makes her home in San Jose.
"Wheeler's appearance made Elvis, and the time
period, come alive for our actors," says Dexter
Fidler, PYT's artistic director and the director of
All Shook Up.
All Shook Up (music by Presley, lyrics by
Presley and Fred Wise, and book by Joe DiPietro)
follows a roustabout in blue suede shoes who rattles
a red-state town with his guitar playing and pelvis
swiveling, thereby causing fools to fall in love.
Combining Presley's most popular tunes with
Shakespearean plot twists, the jukebox musical was
hailed as "the best retro rock show since 'Grease' " by
NBC-TV and "the most pure enjoyment...on
Broadway since 'Hairspray' " by Variety upon its 2005
premiere.
PYT's production plays Aug. 2-10 at the Mountain View
Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.,
Mountain View. Show times are 2 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2
and 9; 1 and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 3; 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6, 7 and
8; and 1 p.m. Aug. 10. Tickets cost $7 to $18.
In keeping with the spirit of the show, PYT is offering
half-price tickets to patrons who come to the 6:30 p.m.
Aug. 3 performance dressed as Presley.
