  • All Shook Up

PYT participants age 12-20, as well as our alumni, I hope we're going to see you this weekend at auditions for All Shook Up, performing August 2-10. It's a great rock n roll musical, set to the songs of Elvis Presley. There's humor, romance, loads of singing and dancing, and some timely messages about tolerance of others, and the importance of being true to yourself.

All Shook Up features a great assortment of principal and featured roles, and the ensemble is going to be kept VERY busy-- wait till you see some of the musical numbers!

Auditions are Saturday May 31 at 2pm or Sunday June 1 at 2pm or 6pm. Late auditions may be possible on Tuesday, June 3, by emailing an advance request to Production Manager Joan Adelman at pytmom@aol.com.

    PYT Questions Answered

Q: We're on the waiting list for a class. When will we find out if we make it in the class?
Spaces become available for names on the waiting when registered participants drop a class or camp. Since we have no way of knowing when or even if that will occur, we have no way to estimate the likelihood that anyone on the waiting list will get into a camp or class. This is one reason why there are no refunds of registration fees after a certain point - the closer it is to the beginning of a camp, the harder it is to fill a spot when someone drops. We have had camps in the past where drop happened so late that we were unable to fill the spot - even from an extensive waiting list.

Q: How do you select which plays are performed each season?
PYT's artistic director Dexter Fidler selects a preliminary slate of shows to present to our season selection committee. The season selection committee is comprised of members from PYT's board of directors and other committees. The final season is the approved by the full PYT board of directors. There are many factors considered when selecting a show.
Several of the shows requested by our participants - such as The Lion King or Wicked - aren't currently available for licensing. Ideally, shows will also have family-friendly content, a lot of opportunities to feature an ensemble and have technical requirements that are within our budget and level of expertise. Shows that are selected need to appeal to both our participants and our audience members. Participation fees cover only a fraction of the cost of producing a large-scale musical. The rest is covered through sponsorships and ticket sales.
