Kevin Bacon Wants to Give Us $10,000!

Your donations can help PYT receive a $10,000 grant from actor Kevin Bacon!

Kevin Bacon is offering six, $10,000 grants to nonprofits through SixDegrees.org, a new Web site in partnership with Network for Good that builds on the popularity of the "small world phenomenon" to inspire giving to charities online. Through SixDegrees.org, nonprofits and individuals can create charity badges to raise funds.

The six non-celebrity badges that have the largest number of donations between January 18 and March 31 at 8:59pm will get a matching grant of up to $10,000 each from Kevin Bacon.

So visit PYT's badge and help us raise much-needed funds to support our move to a new and improved facility in the fall.

PYT Wows the Crowd at Outreach Performances

Several talented performers recently took the stage to promote PYT in the community.

Ernestine Balisi, Leah Cohen, Katherine Goldman, Molly Murphy and Max Venuti led a talented group of stenogs and hoofers for a preview of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Cinderella at the Joint Venture Silicon Valley "State of the Valley" conference on Feb. 2 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose. The group performed before an estimated crowd of 1,400, and crossed paths with former Vice- President and current Academy Award nominee Al Gore, who was the keynote speaker at the event. The ensemble also featured Sarah Baxter, Izzy Bolognini, Zoe Custer, Paige Douglas, Laura Eagleston, Erin Farrell, Melissa Goldman, Caroline Milner, Helena Raffel, Jennifer Spindler, Diana Vandenburg, Kimberlee Vandenburg, Sallie Walecka, Emma Wiszowaty, Lani Yort and Sage Yort.

A smaller group performed a taste of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Children's Discovery Museum on Feb. 10. Erin Farrell, Arielle Fishman, Katherine Goldman and Melissa Goldman performed "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "How the Other Half Lives" and "Forget About the Boy" for a crowd of enraptured tots. The room was full to capacity, with younger audience members sitting on the floor!

Our deep thanks to all these performers for helping spread the word about PYT!

Is PYT Your Favorite Family Theater?

Each year, Bay Area Parent magazine conducts a survey to determine the favorite places and service providers of local families. From parties to parks to preschools, the magazine again is soliciting “family favorites” and will list the 2007 winners later this year in its “Best of the Best” publication, a wonderful resource for parents.

Peninsula Youth Theatre has been honored with this award several times, and we’d like to be recognized again. If you think PYT is great, please participate in the survey and select PYT as “best children’s theater workshop” or “best kids’ camps” or, best of all, both! You can complete the survey in less than 10 minutes, but you must fill out at least 20 categories for your votes to count. The deadline to enter is April 16, and only one entry per household is permitted. Participants are automatically entered into a drawing for free tickets to such family-favorite destinations as the Children’s Discovery Museum, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the San Francisco Zoo. To participate, clip the survey out of Bay Area Parent ‘s Silicon Valley edition and mail it to:

Bay Area Parent – Silicon Valley
    985 University Ave., Suite 30
    Los Gatos, CA 95032
    Attn: Best of Survey.

Copies of the survey are available at PYT and the magazine can be found at many locations, including libraries, community and child-care centers, and other family-related businesses.

Discount Tickets for Friends of PYT

TheatreWorks is offering $10 tickets to PYT friends and family for the Thursday preview performance of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, April 5 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

From the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of Into the Woods comes a gloriously personal show-biz musical about the making of art and the price of fame. Chronicling the rocky rise to renown of three writer and composer friends, it is told in reverse, rolling backwards in time from the self-serving cynicism of the 1980s to the starry-eyed idealism of the '50s. An exhilarating, hit-filled score highlights this modern classic, that rare musical comedy whose witty intelligence never prevents it from touching the heart.

Please note that this offer is not available online or through the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts ticket office. To order $10 tickets, call the TheatreWorks ticket office at (650) 463-1960 and ask for the PYT Friends and Family rate.

This offer is good only for Thursday, April 5, at 8pm.

    "Millie" Takes Mountain View

In PYT's upcoming CenterStage musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, a country bumpkin aims to take a bite out of the Big Apple, bobbing her hair and raising her hem. The flapper’s got a new attitude, a new job and an eye on her affluent boss. This thoroughly entertaining romp through the rip- roaring '20s won six Tonys, including best musical.

Millie charlestons her way to the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts March 10 - 19.
