Nearly 1/3 of companies reported having a sexual harassment compliant in the last 3 years. In a Dacri & Associates survey of business owners, managers and human resource professionals, 31.5% said their organization had a sexual harassment compliant. Yet nearly 61% annually train their managers in prevention and 57.1% provide training to their employees during their initial new hire orientation. Managers today understand that even with training, the risk of a complaint still exists.

To ensure that your employees are protected and to minimize any risk to your organization, you must put in place a comprehensive program to address this issue. Creating a culture where everyone understands that harassment will never be tolerated and where all employees are respected is the key. When that happens, claims rarely occur.   • The Town of Falmouth Maine received a Regional Recognition Award from the Greater Portland Council on Government. The Town was honored for the organizational improvements they made in their volunteer fire department. I was pleased to have had the opportunity to assist them with this initiative.
