Go, Team, GO!
Dear OVU Alumni & Friends, LSU Junior cornerback Morris Claiborne was recently named the 2011 Thorpe Award winner on December 9. The award is given each year to the top defensive back in college football. The Executive Director of the Jim Thorpe Association, Eddie Griffin, was recently on the OVU campus to speak with students and the coaches of our 13 intercollegiate NCAA Division II teams. Eddie, long-time NCAA wrestling coach, also attended the OVU-West Liberty wrestling match. He spoke highly of his visit to campus, noting what he called "your splendid facilities." After the match with West Liberty, the former coach visited with members of the OVU wrestling squad. In conversations throughout the day, Eddie reminded all of us that not only do we have fine current athletes, but we also have hundreds who have participated in OVU athletics in the past. If you played basketball or baseball or golf or another sport for OVU in the past, let me encourage you to stay engaged with our current coaches and players. How do you start?Athletics are an important part of what we do at OVU. Transformation occurs in the classroom and in chapel, but it often takes place on the diamond or on the green.
Go, team, go! Dr. Harold ShankPresident

Homecoming 2012 Follow-Up
For some it was the Alumni chorus, for others it was the Alumni awards, for others it was Expressions, and for still others, it was the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. Regardless of what brought them to campus for Homecoming Celebration Weekend, all had a favorite takeaway.

OVU Admissions Set to S.O.A.R.
Excitement remains high at OVU after the record-setting enrollment class last fall. Inquiries are up 65 percent and acceptances are up 4 percent over that record-breaking new student enrollment!
Admissions is pleased to announced a new organization on campus called Students of OVU Assisting Recruiters (S.O.A.R.). The idea came from Danielle McAfee and Emily Christian, two OVU students, who asked to take an active role in recruiting students from their home areas. The idea for the name came from Admissions office manager, Valerie Wright, and is based on Isaiah 40:31, "They will soar on wings like eagles..."
Shortly after these two students approached the Admissions staff, Vice President for Admissions Larry Lyons announced in Chapel that if there were students with the same interest, his department would help to organize and mobilize them. Since that time S.O.A.R. has grown to 22 members. They are assisting with hosting visiting students, giving campus tours, and many other important tasks that greatly enhance the admissions team effort...
