Beautiful Feet and Headlines
Dear OVU Alumni & Friends, News, when it was good, Isaiah said, traveled on beautiful feet as a messenger ran from one city to another with a positive report on the latest events. Over time beautiful feet turned into headlines on newsprint and then live television coverage from a helicopter. Now news often comes digitally. While we at OVU still hope to visit many of you in person like the messengers of old and although we still provide print copies of events on campus, we now share our positive reports in this new e-newsletter. With the e-newsletter we can now provide extensive pictures, unlimited copies, helpful links, and in many cases, timely news. Our goal is to make this e-newsletter as helpful, positive and encouraging as possible. Tell others about the e-newsletter. We'll look forward to spreading the news every month. Dr. Harold ShankPresident

OVU Experiences Record Growth
 |
OVU members participate in the 2011 Vienna and Parkersburg, WV, Christmas Parades
|
OVU recently participated for the first time ever in the Vienna and Parkersburg, WV, Christmas Parades. The university has begun a new effort to participate in community activities and service that are meaningful to the Mid-Ohio Valley. In addition, OVU's admissions team is gearing up to claim OVU's share of potential students and support throughout the Northeast. The parades are just one small example of the university's conscious decision to grow.
OVU had a record first-time enrollment last fall. First-time students were up 37 percent over last year or 199 new students! Additionally, numbers of inquiries (students that request information from OVU) are up 66 percent or 1,675 more than last year. OVU wants churches, community leaders, alumni, and friends to be a part of this growth. Be on the lookout for information on how you can help as we organize and mobilize our constituents for recruiting new students.
Contact Larry Lyons, Vice President for Admissions at larry.lyons@ovu.edu if you have any suggestions as OVU strives to fulfill its commitment to growing enrollment.

Both student-athletes play at Grandview High School in Colorado.
"These guys are some talented defensemen. They complement each other very well," said Corey Struss, OVU assistant men's lacrosse coach. "Josh is a speed and takeaway kind of guy and will cause some havoc down low. Travis plays great body positioning and his slides are spot-on. I expect them to push our defense to the top..."

Points of Light Ceremony: OVU Dedicates Remodeled Student Center
 | Students enjoy a board game at the newly remodelled Stanley Student Union |
Last spring Ohio Valley University's administration and its students developed a dream and a plan-to renovate an existing building on the university's south campus, transforming it into a student center.
OVU students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered this past November to formally dedicate the newly renovated Student Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
"Our students are an amazing group of individuals," said Jason Dougherty, OVU dean of students. "They were instrumental in moving things forward on this project. Without their ingenuity, drive, leadership, and volunteer spirit we would certainly not be where we are today. We now have a very special gathering place for us all."
Following the ribbon cutting event, a new tradition for the university began with a small gathering around the Student Center fire pit built through the generosity of Burger King. University officials have named the new event "Points of Light" and have designated the first Saturday of November each year as a time for both students and alumni to gather around a point of light for a time of thanksgiving and prayer for OVU...

OVU Alum Jeff Yocum ('08) and Eric Paris ('09) in Myanmar
|
For 11 summers Dr. Wes Harrison, professor of Bible and Humanities, and his wife Glenna (Logston '66) took OVU students to Myanmar (formerly Burma) to teach conversational English using the Bible as a reading text. The groups also worked with the small house churches in Yangon (Rangoon) and Mandalay.
Over the summers 50+ students and faculty participated in the Myanmar mission. Student interest went beyond just the summer programs, eventually blossoming into a vocational mission effort...
