What's New

We're in full gear for 2 major projects here on Greenroofs.com: Our 2013 Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Calendar, which we expect to have ready in time for CitiesAlive in Chicago, and our second annual Greenroofs & Walls of the World Virtual Summit 2013!

Have you heard about it yet?  We recently announced our important new international partnership.  Greenroofs.com, in association with the World Green Infrastructure Network (WGIN), is presenting: The Greenroofs & Walls of the World™ Virtual Summit 2013 - Connecting the Planet + Living Architecture: People, Projects & Design on January 9 through February 8, 2013.  Yes, a whole month of lively speaker videos, Q & A sessions, panels, social networking and virtual fun!

We'll keep you posted about our Keynotes, Speakers and Panelists and awesome opportunities for you to promote your company and connect with friends and colleagues from across the world.

We're also planning for CitiesAlive in Chicago, of course, and right after that we're heading to China for the WGIN 2012 Hangzhou China World Green Roof Conference on October 22 through 26.  It will be an amazing opportunity to connect and share information as well as go on one-of-a-kind local and not-so-local tours (Shanghai and Beijing!).  We are extremely excited!  Make sure to read my recent blog post at right and our May guest feature article You're Invited to Hangzhou, China for the 2012 World Green Roof Congress, by Wang Xianmin, Secretary-general of the 2012 Hangzhou China World Green Roof Conference. If you are going, please let us know!

2012 Greenroofs & Walls™ of the World Calendar

September features the Delft University of Technology Library in Delft, The Netherlands. 1960's Delft University desired an intensive green roof for recreation over the library, and Mecanoo Architects designed a sloped plane with huge expanses of daylighting: "The large lawn roof is tilted up at one corner like a sheet of paper held by a single point." With the roof renovation, the existing leaking single ply roofing was removed and replaced by a fully adhered two layered roofing system on a cellular glass insulation. ZinCo Elastodrain gives protection for the roofing system, and the 6" lightweight substrate and lawn complete the build-up, used for relaxing and winter sledding.

The Greenroofs & Walls™ of the World Calendar series combines two of our most popular destinations on Greenroofs.com: The Greenroof & Greenwall Projects Database and Upcoming Events.

Quick and Dirty: Vertical Gardens Are Off the Wall!
Living Walls | HGTV Gardens Blog, by Danny Bonvissuto

A Means to an End: Focus on sewers leads to cleaner Onondaga Lake
Syracuse.com Blog, by Staff
Syracuse, NY. "...After getting federal approval to change direction, Mahoney and the county moved ahead aggressively. Last year the county passed its goal of funding 50 green infrastructure projects - installing absorbent roofs, porous pavement, rain gardens, bioswales and cisterns. These projects should capture 43.6 million gallons of stormwater each year. The savings multiply: another million gallons saved by a green roof at the convention center; 2.1 million gallons from 600 free rain barrels the county distributed; 2 million gallons from 1,000 new trees planted..."
