EPA's Campus RainWorks Challenge is a competition for college and university students intended to engage the next generation of urban planners, designers, and engineers in the development of integrated, green solutions to our nation's growing water infrastructure needs. The Challenge is designed to span the Fall Semester, with registration opening September 4 and entries due December 14. Winning entries will be announced in April 2013, and four winning teams will earn cash prizes. As registration approaches, we invite interested students and faculty to use the attached flyer to help assemble teams. Welcome Back to School! [8.16.12]
 
In their latest white paper, American Rivers explore how green infrastructure practices can mitigate the urban heat island effect and provide a number of other public health benefits. Growing Green: How Green Infrastructure Can Improve Livability and Public Health provides a compendium of potential benefits that green infrastructure provides to improve community health and livability. From rain gardens to green roofs, green infrastructure practices decrease pollutant loadings into waters, which can reduce illness from recreational contact or polluted drinking water. [7.23.12]

Facebook campus expansion designed by Frank Gehry, has roof garden

Menlo Park, CA. "Facebook unveiled plans and pictures Friday of its campus expansion, designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. Los Angeles-based Gehry -- who has projects all over the world and is best known locally for Walt Disney Concert Hall -- designed the Facebook project as a large building with irregular outer walls. A mock-up of the campus shows the building to have an extensive rooftop garden...The expansion is also designed to be eco-friendly. Facebook said it would plant many trees on the grounds..." With Funding Tight, Cities are Turning to Green Infrastructure

Green infrastructure is the harnessing of the natural processes of trees and other vegetation - so-called ecosystem services - to carry out the functions of the built systems.
