Greenroofs.com News
| In the northern hemisphere we've just entered autumn, and finally we're getting lower temperatures here in "Hotlanta." But cooler weather will soon be upon us, along with several high profile industry conferences that we'll be attending. I'll be presenting our "2010 Top 10 List of Hot Trends in Greenroof & Greenwall Design" at the World Green Roof Congress 2010 in Mexico City on October 7-9, the International Skyrise Greenery Conference 2010 in Singapore on November 1-3, and the 8th Annual 2010 Green Roof and Green Wall Conference - CitiesAlive! in Vancouver, B.C., Canada on November 30-December 2. And don't miss Ed Snodgrass in Adelaide for the Green Roofs Australia 2010 Green Roofs Conference on October 20-23.
Hopefully by now you've noticed two of our newest features, starting with the Project of the Week eNewsletter - it's extremely popular and we've received a lot of good feedback from both readers and designers/manufacturers of record. People ask me how can they can get their project featured, and that's easy: first we have to have a completed profile! You can send us info to create the profile in many ways, using the online form, in a Word doc, an email, etc., and each profile can hold up to 11 photos and/or graphics - send those via email to projects@greenroofs.com. Read more about the process in this Sky Gardens Blog post.
And, have you seen our "This Week in Review" video yet? It comes out every Friday and is hosted by our daughter, Anjuli Velazquez, who is an associate producer of GreenroofsTV. She has produced several videos so far, and each week you can expect to learn What's New on Greenroofs.com - from our Greenroof or Greenwall Project of the Week to our original articles and Sky Gardens Blog posts - plus highlights of the most interesting or important NewsLinks, Industry Updates, Upcoming Events, as well as Advertiser Press Releases (APRs) - kind of a weekly video newsletter! Remember, you don't have to be listed in The Greenroof Directory to send us your industry news, but you do for our APRs, which are online news releases picked up by Google and other search engines, where local people are searching for businesses like yours.

The 2010 Greenroofs of the World™ 12-Month Wall Calendar:
September features the WUERTTEMBERGISCHE GEMEINDEVERSICHERUNG a.G. HEADQUARTERS in Stuttgart, Germany, 30,000 sf of Extensive and Intensive Greenroofs by ZinCo. The design of the new headquarters of insurance company WGV created many technical challenges, and resulted in striking solutions: a three-dimensional Pot-Garden with an umbrella-like leafy roof (ZinCo's Recreational Park); two-dimensional shallow vegetation (ZinCo's Ornamental Sedum); and heavy duty trafficable areas (ZinCo's Driveways and Walkways). The total build-up of the four courtyards is only 8" above the roof structure, including permanent irrigation to ensure long term beauty and benefits.

Christine's Ramblings: Last year Christine Thuring wrote an article about living walls in Paris and concluded it was a hot city with elusive green walls and lacking green spaces - but after more visits here, her views have been officially challenged! See Greener Impressions of Paris, 2010.
Sustainable Roofing Technologies Editor: Ralph Velasquez has been a friend and Contributing Editor here since 2005, and his new position with Tremco is very exciting, but unfortunately does not allow time for a column.
