Chicago Ranks No. 1 For Green
Roofs
For the fourth year in a row, Chicago has topped the
list of U.S.cities with the greatest amount of space
devoted to greenroofs, having installed about 517,633
new sf in 2007. Mayor Daley says his city has more
than 400 constructed or in planning covering more
than 4 million sf, including new buildings planned at
O'Hare Airport. CBS2 Chicago staff reporting.

COTE Top Ten Green Projects
The AIA's press release reveals that half of this year's
2008 AIA COTE Top Ten Green Projects have living
roofs, including Garthwaite Center for Science & Art,
Macallen Building Condominiums, Nueva School
Hillside Learning Complex, Queens Botanical Garden
Visitor Center, Yale University Sculpture Building and
Gallery, and the Honorable Mention IRS Kansas City

Governor Paterson and MTA Announce
Sustainability Initiatives
NY Governor David A. Paterson joined the MTA
Executive Director and Chairman to announce a
series of sustainability initiatives to further reduce its
impact on the environment. Among the more than 20
recommendations and projects identified in the
interim report, the MTA has commitmentted to develop
green design standards for transit facilities based on
LEED. The MTA is planning high-performance roofs at
many facilities, including vegetated green roofs at the
Metro-North Railroad's Harmon Yard Support Shop,
the MTA Bus Far Rockaway Depot, and the B&T
Queens Midtown Tunnel Service Building Annex.
