    Publisher Linda Velazquez: Linda was recently interviewed by Fox TV here in Atlanta atop Northpark 400 and 500, and they'll also be filming her own projects, 3TEN HauStudio and the soon to be planted Greenroof Pavilion & Greenroof Trial Gardens of Rock Mill Park.     Hannah Edwards reports in the Sydney Morning Herald how a $48,000 grant from the City of Sydney council leads to research on rice paddies and orchards by a group of architects and environmentalists showing how they could be implemented on city rooftops. [8.26.07]

    Scientists deliver sobering news in 'The 11th Hour'
    The Examiner.com's Greg Archer writes, "The local research associate for San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences is turning heads with a slew of other like-minded scientists in "The 11th Hour," Leonardo DiCaprio's much-ballyhooed eco doc."     Foliage-packed 'green roofs' to debut in Coconut Creek's MainStreet
    The new MainStreet development area of the Promenade at Lyons will open in October with greenroofs atop residences, businesses, stores and even parking garages downtown. MainStreet project coordinator Jim Hetzel said 40 percent of the buildings in the area bordered by Wiles Road to the north, Lyons Road to the east, Sample Road to the south and State Road 7 to the west are expected to have green roofs.     GR scientist conducts first long-term study of effectiveness of green roof benefits
    The reporter speaks to the popularity of vegetated roofs in the green building arena, but questions the lack of hard data. Deborah Johnson Wood of Rapid Growth talks about how Clinton Boyd, senior scientist at Sustainable Research Group, is conducting a first- ever three-year study of a green roof in a natural environment-on top of Metro Health's new greenroof.     Green Roofs for Healthy Cities in partnership with the Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance and the Athena Institute: The GreenSave Calculator is launched on the GRHC and TREMCO websites. This life-cycle cost benefit tool enables industry professionals and building owners to better understand the benefits of greenroofs over the long term. "The LCC Calculator determines the lowest cost investment for satisfying a specific roofing requirement over a specific time frame," said Ralph Velasquez, Sustainable Technologies Manager for Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance.     NRCA: The NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association) Green Roof Systems Manual-2007 is now available. It provides in-depth information regarding the design and installation of quality greenroof systems, focusing on waterproofing aspects of greenroof systems including hot-fluid-applied polymer- modified asphalt membranes, APP- and SBS-polymer- modified bitumen sheet membranes, EPDM membranes, PVC membranes and one- and two- component fluid-applied elastomeric membranes.
