This landmark event is coming to the Bill Graham Civic
Auditorium, September 28-30, 2006 in San Francisco,
CA. West Coast
Green will showcase over 250 exhibitors and 120
speakers, including keynotes by Robert F. Kennedy,
Jr., Sarah Susanka (author of "The Not So Big
House"), and industry leaders Ed Mazria, Peter Yost,

Stress on green building concept
Kolkata Newsline/Express News Service reports on a
day-long conference on “Green Building Meet for a
sustainable future” which was inaugurated by the
state minister for the environment. The chairman of
the Indian Green Building Council explained how the
green building movement should reach new heights
with the phenomenal growth in the construction
industry. Green building concepts including high
performance glass, energy efficient chillers and roof

Celeb Selections for Rebuilding in NOLA
WorldChanging's Sarah Rich writes that Global Green
USA has announced the winners of the design
competition to rebuild New Orleans neighborhoods
sustainably - one pair, Andrew Kotchen and Matthew
Berman of Workshop/APD, is focusing on true
neighborhood design: GREENOLA is a 12 unit
multi-family housing building with six single family
residences and a community center in the Holy
Cross neighborhood of the 9th Ward, one of the
hardest hit and most poorly served areas of New
Orleans. An accessible greenroof will provide refuge

visionary 30-year old arts, community and
sustainability center has become a trigger for

largest solar installation in Berlin, rainwater
harvesting systems, 4,000 square meters of green

L.A. City Council Explores Green Roof
Concept
cbs2.com reports that the Los Angeles City Council is
exploring how greenroofs can help improve the
environment, approving plans for a greenroof in a
new neighborhood city hall in Downtown and South

Earth-Friendly Design: Preserving the
environment can also cut costs
Green architecture and greenroofs have entered the
spiritual realm of religion: Thomas G.
Dolan from ChristianityToday.com writes that not
only do they offer environmental benefits, but many
ministers use the extra outdoor roofspace for
teaching. For example, one planted greenery that is
mentioned in the Bible and used the rooftop garden

Clinton Foundation Promises to Lower Cost of
Green Technologies
Architectural Record says the Clinton Climate
Initiative (Bill Clinton’s charitable foundation) will
combat global warming by providing technologies that
will help reduce carbon emissions in the world’s
largest cities, including New York, Philadelphia,
Chicago, and Los Angeles. "The Climate Initiative will
organize purchasing consortiums to bring down the
costs of efficient technologies, which will likely
include architectural components such as
photovoltaic panels and green roofing materials."
