Wellness City transitions from site to community based program
The Wellness City program operated by Recovery Innovations, Inc. is transitioning from a site-based program to a community-based program. The Recovery Education classes currently offered on-site at 115 W. Meadowlark Street will be provided at local community sites, coordinated through Jim Harrison, Team Lead in Dare County. Working closely with ECBH, Recovery Innovations will be able to exercise greater flexibility and increase the number of persons served in Dare and neighboring counties.Wellness City is founded on the recovery principles of hope, personal choice, empowerment, development of an environment of wellness and independence, and the encouragement of spirituality and community enriched by contribution.
Wellness City is a community made up of individuals embarking on or expanding their recovery journey. A staff of well-trained peers who have experienced their own recovery challenges and successes will share what they have learned and will work alongside practitioners and educators who are committed to the founding principles of the recovery community. The citizens of Wellness City who are beginning their recovery journey will learn to identify personal strengths and challenges and will develop personalized plans that incorporate life experiences, newly learned skills and goals and dreams for the future. Each citizen will partner with a recovery coach who understands the challenges and actualize their hopes and dreams, working together to bring out everyone's best. They will catch each other when someone starts to fall, sharing what's been learned so all can benefit. Strong and trusting relationships will grow and be nurtured between Wellness City citizens. These relationships are key ingredients that will allow the City to operate effectively and successfully.

Run the dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park on Independence Day! It's all about true American grit. The Killer Dunes 2-Miler and Liberty Sands Fun Run is a race on the tallest natural sand dune system in the eastern United States.

Whether you run, walk or climb, you'll revel in the sense of accomplishment for conquering the 2 toughest miles on the Outer Banks. How tough is it? We do not call it Killer Dunes for nothing! And for the younger crowd or those in training, we have the -mile Liberty Sands Fun Run!
Proceeds of the run benefit the Friends of Jockey's Ridge, the volunteer organization that works to preserve Jockey's Ridge State Park. And we remember those who serve so we can run free by also supporting the USO Phone Home program, keeping our troops in touch with their families. When miles apart, hearing the voice of loved ones means the world!
Killer Dunes costs $30 for adults, $25 for U.S. Active Duty and veterans, $25 for Outer Banks Running Club members and $20 for youth under age 18. The Liberty Sands Fun Run costs $5.
