Tuesday, May 24th @ 5:30 pm (preregister by Friday, May 20th)

Learn how to protect children from sexual predators, how to talk to your children about sexual abuse, how to identify the warnings signs that a child is being abused, tips for talking to your childcare providers about Shaken Baby Syndrome, and much Learnmoremore.  "Socially Skilled Child Molesters" are just that- skilled at deception. They spend their entire lives working to fool you! Even the most diligent of parents might miss the warning signs- but this presentation will help to better arm you against these predators.  It is estimated that one in four girls and one in six boys is sexually abused in some manner before their eighteenth birthday.  No one can possibly be with their child every minute of every day of their lives, and child molesters are highly skilled at gaining access to children.  Less than one in ten children report their abuse. In this presentation, Dr. Brown will discuss with you ways to talk to your children about sexual abuse to increase the likelihood that your child would come to you to tell you about something that had happened to him/her. Please plan to attend one of these seminars- or call us to arrange for a presentation to your group or organization!

The 3-day celebration, "OBX Pridefest", will take place June 24-26, 2011 on the surrounding grounds of the historic First Colony Inn, Nags Head, NC with satellite locations at Coquina Beach, Nags Head Beach, the Outer Banks Brewing Station, the Waterfront shops and Galleries in historic Manteo and aboard the Crystal Dawn charter boat at Pirate's Cove Marina.  The corporate sponsor of the event is Kitty Dunes Rentals of Kitty Hawk, NC.  The afternoon festival on June 25th prom1 Calendarises to be a family friendly event with a special children's activity, crafts and games area, many vendor booths, plenty of food and an all-day concert with 10 gay or lesbian bands and singers coming in from all across the country.  Altogether there are over 50 performers in 3 days.  All are invited to join in, whether gay, bi or straight.

. We know this area of North Carolina has mostly attracted the traditional American family.  We're here to say the Outer Banks is big enough for all kinds of families and couples.  Same-sex parents with children are also American families. The big difference between this gay pride festival and others you may have seen on the news is there will not be a big parade down the bypass.  There won't be any kind of parade", says board member, David Miller.  "We want to steer clear of the "in-your-face" sexual images of large-city gay pride parades.  These extremely expressive images represent a very small portion of our American gay community and that's just not our style here on the Outer Banks.  The afternoon music festival, the Coquina Beach party and the historic Manteo Waterfront art gallery and shopping tour will be family-friendly events.  The sunset cruise and the late-night entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights will be limited to 21 and above.Find us on Facebook
