Audrey's Heart Presentation
on Women's Heart Health
Dave Parks of Duck recently lost his beloved wife, Audrey, to a heart attack she might have avoided if Dave had paid closer attention to the signals. Parks's wish now is to educate as many people as possible about the importance of observing and listening more intently to the women they love.
As part of heart month, the local council of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a talk and Q&A by Cardiac Physician's Assistant Edward Healy on women's heart health issues, Monday, February 28, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Holy Redeemer by the Sea Churchl, Kitty Hawk.
The symptoms for women's heart issues are not always the same as for men, so it's important to learn the signs and symptoms of potential women's heart concerns," Paying very close attention to the signs early on may make the difference in the life or death of a woman very near and dear to you."
If interested in attending please email Ed Beckley at ejbeckleyjr@yahoo.com by Feb. 25, so the Knights have ample food and chairs on hand.

Empty Bowls Project Charity Dinner

Empty Bowls Project is an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. Manteo Middle and High Schools have been participating in the Empty Bowls project for several years. This year Kitty Hawk Elementary School will host the event on Thursday, February 17. The goal of the project is to educate the community about hunger, specifically local hunger, and to get as many people as possible to become involved in helping to stop hunger.
 | Ticia Valentine, KHES's art teacher and Event Coordinator for this year's project. She is giving instruction to the staff on how to make bowls. |
In preparation for the dinner, our students, teachers, parents and others created ceramic bowls. In exchange for a simple meal of soup and bread (donated by local patrons) and the ceramic bowl, the guest gives a $10.00 donation. Family discounts are provided. There will be a silent auction with art work and gifts donated by local artisans and supporters. All proceeds will be donated to our local food banks. You can purchase tickets at the door the night of the event. Empty Bowls is an awesome project that offers us the opportunity to teach our children about the many ways we, as a community, can join together to fight hunger.
