Christmas in July
Photo from North Beach Sun | There has been a rumor that RUDOLPH has been sighted on the Outer
Banks recently!!! When he was interviewed by the press, he said that he
was getting ready for CHRISTMAS IN JULY, a unique fund-raiser sponsored
by the Outer Banks Relief Foundation. Chairman of the CHRISTIMAS IN JULY fund raiser, Julie Walter,
Marketing Manager for Homes & Land of the Outer Banks magazine has
announced that the promotion is planned for the weekend of July 10-12
and will see many businesses and their employees sporting RED NOSES !!!
Containers will be available and donations will be collected for the
benefit of the OBRF, whose mission is to assist our community when
health crises strike. The focus of this endeavor will be to involve our
tourist-guests in having some fun for a most worthy cause!!! If you have a business (be it financial, dry cleaning, restaurant,
yo-yo manufacturing, whatever!) and would like to participate in a
terrifically enjoyable event, contact the OBRF office at 261-2004, or email us. ckelley@outerbanksrelieffoundation.com. In the last five years, the Outer Banks Relief Foundation has
provided over $300,000 to over 200 local citizens in need. Financial
assistance amounts range from $500 to $5000. Some examples of those
situations are individuals stricken with cancer, or with serious blood
or nerve disorders, or spinal injuries, or MS. OBRF works closely with
the other charitable and helping organizations here in our Outer Banks
community, in order to coordinate our support and services to the
needy, to not duplicate our efforts, and to maximize our collective
resources as much a possible, particularly in these challenging
economic times.

Response to the gulf oil disaster
 The
Gulf Oil Disaster is indeed a time for action on the part of
government, corporations, nonprofits and volunteers. But it also begs
for a religious response of contemplation, prayer and calls for
environmental and economic justice. The North Carolina Council of
Churches sends our prayers out for the victims of this seemingly
relentless destruction of animal habitat, coastal economies, and
peoples' lives and livelihoods. We encourage you to get involved in support for this immense and irreplaceable natural heritage, one of the finest elements of God's Creation. Click here for a list of faith-based resources, including events, prayers and religious news & opinion.
