Hands of Hope
Thanks for the heads up on this from Outer Banks Seniors North Carolina, a really informative blog of events, issues, activities for OBX Seniors. Hands of Hope is a community initiative arising from a desire to
ensure that no one walks a cancer journey alone. It does not duplicate
services but provides support in areas that complement existing
community resources. Lay navigators are the backbone of this effort. They are volunteer
members of your own community who have received special training. For information, call Linda Willey, Hands of Hope Coordinator, at 216-9400

OneBoat Services for Nonprofits
| | Wouldn't it be great to have a searchable list all events in our community in one place - schools, churches, and nonprofits. Or if someone wanted to volunteer for an nonprofit whose mission was 'ending hunger'. What if they could go online and look for volunteer opportunities in OBX nonprofits with that mission. Now nonprofits, churches and schools, can list information, events, volunteer needs and even photos on a site developed by OneBoat which provides live local updates to visitors and locals. Interfaith Community Outreach is one of the first nonprofits to sign up for this FREE service. Check out what ICO is working on. and then add your organization too. |

Currituck-Dare Woman's Fund Meeting
The newly organized and growing Currituck-Dare Woman's Fund has elected a study of health issues of women and children in Currituck and Dare counties as their main grant making focus. Speaking at the first program on June 10 at Keefers Grille, The Point Golf Club will be Betse Kelly, OBX Hospital Cancer Resource Center Coordinator. The Cancer Resource Center opened in January 2008. Located on the
second floor in the Medical Office Building adjacent to The Outer Banks
Hospital, the Center provides support to cancer patients, their
families, care providers and others who are concerned about cancer. All members and friends are invited to attend. The meeting begins at 5:30 and will end by 7:00. Betse Kelly is the first in a series of speakers to address their services, community needs and the unmet needs or gaps in health services for women and children. Vicki Hecht-Boehm, newly elected President, invites all women to attend this new community funding resource organization. Woman's giving circles are part of a growing trend in philanthropy, bringing women together and helping them to invest and target issues in their communities important to women and children. The Currituck-Dare Woman's Fund is part of the network of Womens Funds across North Carolina and is supported by the services of the North Carolina Community Foundation. Women who choose to become members make an annual donation and can be as active in the group's programs as they choose. The annual donations made by the members are pooled to create an annual grant making fund that is then made available through a competitive grants process to those organizations seeking funds to address local needs. For more information about this new group or the network of Woman's Fund in North Carolina, please go to nccommunityfoundation.org or call Peggy Birkemeier at the NCCF Northeast Region Office at 491.8166.
