Volunteer Opportunities
iconVolunteer for Girl Scout Camp! Adult volunteers are needed to help deliver day and evening Girl Scout summer camps.  Whether you are married or single, have children or not, male or female, 18 or 80, you can change the life of a girl in your community. Volunteering can fit into your schedule. Help out at multiple camps, for one full week or just for a few days. Choose from the following camp locations and dates:

Englehard: June 14-16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Englehard Fire Department and June 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Davis Center.  Girls in grades K through 12 will build self-esteem and learn healthy living techniques by dancing, moving and having fun with other girls. On June 19, girls will learn how to "go green" and will make crafts out of recycled materials.
Manteo: June 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Girl Scout Manteo Field Center, 211 Budleigh Street, Suite 104.  Girls in grades 6 through 12 will build leadership skills and challenge themselves to try something new each day.  Perform a flag retirement ceremony, go kayaking, build a rain garden and learn to cook outdoors.
Manteo: June 21-25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Lost Colony in Manteo.  Carpooling available.  Girls entering grades 1 through 5 will learn voice, dance and acting skills and will have an opportunity to perform for an audience.  Volunteers can have one daughter attend for reduced rate of $25.
Buxton:  August 9-13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fessenden Center.  Girls in grades K through 12 will learn to "go green" by reducing their carbon footprint and making crafts out of recyclable materials.  While learning to be kind to the earth, girls will also learn how to be kind to each other by putting an end to bullying.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Marsha Riibner-Cady at 252-305-8113 or marshar@gsccc.org.

Caring adults are needed to help build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

2ndkim Annual Concert of Hope
Thursday May 27 at 7:00 PM in the fellowship hall of Holy Redeemer.  Open to the public, the concert will benefit the Nativity Preparatory School's local Scholarship Fund.  Tickets are $10.00 in advance and $12.00 at the door.

The Concert is  hosted by Kim Kalman, a Listennationally known vocalist/acoustic guitarist with over 30 years of performing experience.  Kim will be performing material from her new release, I LOOK TO YOU.

The local scholarship fund began in 2009 as a thank-you gift from a small group of Holy Redeemer by the Sea parishioners to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.  The Nativity Preparatory School, located in Wilmington, Delaware, was established by the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.  The school provides a tuition-free, middle school education to boys of all faiths from low-income families.  The school prepares students for success in high school and college and helps students grow in a love for learning and an abiding sense of responsibility to their community.  The school scholarship seems a perfect match between the Parish and the Oblates.

Concert tickets are available after Masses at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Church in Kitty Hawk and Holy Trinity by the Sea in Nags Head as well as at Coastal Fast Lube.  For further concert information or tickets, contact Susan Cheney at 252-441-1575

National Stroke Awareness Month (May) is a great time to learn about the risk factors of stroke as well as signs and symptoms of this "brain attack", which is the leading cause of adult disability.

There are several risk factors that may be controllable in order to prevent the occurrence of a stroke. What are your risk factors. quizTake this quiz from www.stroke.org and find out.

In addition developing healthy lifestyles habits, recognizing symptoms and taking quick steps Watchto get medical attention can save your life and limit disabilities. A simple test to help detect stroke symptoms follows: FACE - Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop? ARM - Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?  SPEECH - Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence.  Does the speech sound slurred or strange? TIME - If you observe any of these signs, it's time to call 9-1-1.
