Volunteer Opportunities
The Dare Literacy Council is in need of
volunteer tutors. Email dareliteracy@gmail.com Albemarle Commission needs volunteers to deliver nutritious
meals to senior citizens in Dare County Monday through Friday. The Home Delivered Meals Program serves seniors that
are 60 years of age or over, homebound and no longer able to prepare a
nutritious meal for themselves. If you have one hour a month to help
a senior,please contact Mary Jernigan at 252-475-5637 or Sandra
Cantrell Bush at 252-473-5768 ext. 28.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, a partnering church or civic/community organization with Respite Care, please contact, Stephanie Bowers, Program Coordinator at (252) 475-5028.

THE 2010 WOMEN'S EXPO
Sponsored by The Virginia Dare Business and Professional Women's Club:The
2010 Women's Expo aims to offer interesting, informative, and
educational programs and workshops that enrich women's skill sets and
confidence levels while providing an opportunity to network and market
their products and services. Friday, March 26, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (registration begins at 10:00 a.m.) College of the Albemarle Roanoke Island Campus. Free admission.
This
is a multifaceted, all female program with distinguished speakers,
workshops, and exhibits on subjects of particular interest to women. Topics
will range from starting your own business, branding, health,
nutrition, to finding your passion, retirement planning and leadership.
Available
for purchase in the vendor area will be unique gifts, jewelry, art,
baked goods and services offered by women for women.
Keynote Speaker: North Carolina State Treasurer - Janet Cowell Elected
in 2008, she is the state's 27th popularly-elected Treasurer and is the
first woman to win the post. Cowell is at the forefront of economic
development in North Carolina, serving as chair of the State Banking
Commission and on the boards of State Education and Community Colleges.
As an investement professional, Cowell earned an MBA from the Wharton
School of Business and a Master's degree from the Lauder Institute.
She worked as a financial analyst with HSBC Bank and Lehman Brothers
before making her home in North Carolina.

Mt Zion 4th Tuesday Community Dinners
The Dinn  er Outreach ministry at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Grandy is held
at March 23rd from 6:00 until all are fed. The meal is offered
free to the community and church family. Contact Alline for more
information. If you know of anyone who would like a hot meal please come
and bring them with  you. We'd love to have entire families present.
We want to meet the needs of as many people as we possibly can. Remember
it's all free and a good time is just part of our menu.

Outer Banks Autism Walk Join the Dare County Center in a walk for autism awareness Saturday,
April 10. Contact Emily Karr for further information on the walk at 475-9271. The walk will benefit the Monarch Beach Club and the Autism Society of
NC-OBX Chapter. The
walk is free, but to get a t-shirt, please pay $10.00 before March 15. Turn in your sponsor donation form and money the
day of the walk. Cash and or Checks accepted. Checks made out to Monarch Beach
Club.

Corolla Pedal-Foot-Paddler
 April 7 - Wednesday from 8 am
to 1 pm Corolla Pedal-Foot-Paddle. Join us for a multi-athletic
event beginning in Currituck
Heritage Park. The "Pedal-Foot-Paddle" starts with a scenic
cycle through Corolla followed by a run on the beach at low-tide, wrapping up
with a kayak paddle on the Currituck Sound.
For the more
leisurely-minded enjoy the fun event, "Land and Light"- climb the Currituck
Beach Lighthouse, then
stroll through the park ending at the front porch of the historic Whalehead
Club. Contestants may participate
individually or as a team. Entry fee
includes registration reception on Tuesday evening, and award celebration -
including best costume - on race day.

Awards for Senior Nutrition Program.
Darlene Harrell, Albemarle Commission's Senior Nutrition
Program Director, presented a plaque along with gr  atitude to the Reverend Jerry
Cribb and Jean Basnight of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church for allowing
the Senior Nutrition Program to gather in their fellowship hall for the past 30
years. "We will be forever grateful to Mt. Olivet for the outreach of
love given to the seniors all these years and we will truly miss gathering
there daily", said Harrell. The Program is now in the new Dare County
Center. Seniors 60 years of age and older are invited to attend.
Make a reservation by calling Sandy Scarborough or Sandra Cantrell-Bush at
475-9279. The Program is also in need of Home Delivered Meals Volunteers.
