Senior Citizens living on fixed incomes
 Disabled
Any Individual or family currently receiving food stamps.
Working families making tough choices between buying food or paying for necessities such as rent, utilities, medications and gas to go to work.
food bank WatchMore information will be coming on how you can volunteer to help at the Pantry. In a 2009 survey of the Albemarle area, the number of Individuals/families suffering a financial crisis or living on a fixed income has grown by 18% in the last 12 months. More people are forced to visit food pantries as they contend with job loss and higher living expenses. Some people may need help once in a given year, while others may need help month over month to make it through. As the number of people who are unemployed and underemployed continues to rise  it is difficult to keep up with the demand. In the best of times, Northeastern NC is resource poor. Today, more than ever we need the support of lawmakers and our community friends to help feed the hungry men, women and children in our region.

Peace and Justice Interfaith Coalition Film Series: Including Samuel
Including samuel Before his son Samuel was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, photojournalist Dan Habib rarely thought about the inclusion of people with disabilities. Now he thinks about inclusion every day. Shot and produced over four years, Habib's award-winning documentary film, Including Samuel, honestly chronicles the Habib family's efforts to include Samuel in every facet of their lives. The film also features four other families with varied inclusion experiences, plus interviews with dozens of teachers, young people, parents and disability rights experts. Including Samuel is a highly personal, passionately photographed film that captures the cultural and systemic barriers to inclusion. The film has been screened at universities, national conferences, public television stations and independent theatres across the country. Including Samuel has also been featured on NPR's All Things Considered, Good Morning America, as well as in the Washington Post and the Boston Globe.

Straightlaced Documentary
The Outer Banks Peace and Justice Interfaith Coalition is featuring the documentary "Straightlaced' in March.  "Straightlaced unearths how popular pressures around gender and sexuality are confining American teens. Their stories reflect a diversity of experiences, demonstrating how gender role expectations and homophobia are interwoven, and illustrating the different ways that these expectations connect with culture, race and class. From girls confronting media messages about culture and body image to boys who are sexually active just to prove they aren't gay, this fascinating array of students opens up with brave, intimate honesty about the toll that deeply held stereotypes and rigid gender policing have on all our lives. Watch the trailer. WatchThe Coalition is interested in broadening the audience of this film.  If you or any organization is interested in working with the Coalition, please contact us.
