What is World Fair Trade Day? On and around May 9th, people in 80 countries worldwide will
hold events to mark World Fair Trade Day in order to highlight the importance
and benefits of Fair Trade. Fair Trade is a competitive business model that takes into account social values often
disregarded in conventional business - one that builds equitable, long-term partnerships
between consumers in North America and producers in developing regions. Its mission is to empower the most
vulnerable farmers and artisans around the globe. Fair Trade guarantees a fair wage
and safe working conditions for producers and also supports sustainable practices that minimize our environmental
footprint. For more information, check out www.crsfairtrade.org.
Looking for some local shops that carry fair trade goods:

Front Porch Caf, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head Website: PlanetPleasingGoods. Go to Church. Many area churches serve Fair Trade Coffee after services.

Reform Immigration for America
WHYTell Congress: "It's time to fix the broken immigration system. Pass comprehensive immigration reform this year!" Our broken immigration system is hurting our economy, American
families, and all American workers. Comprehensive immigration reform is
the solution. President Obama supports reform. But only Congress has
the power to pass legislation. The NC Council of Churches has just published free fact sheets that are available for distribution
in your congregation or community group. "Faith &
Immigration" highlights the religious calling to welcome the stranger,
while "Society & Immigration" evaluates common misperceptions
about immigrants. |
