Currituck Partnership with South Hampton Roads on YMCA
Currituck commissioners have agreed to explore a possible partnership with the South Hampton Roads YMCA to build a multi-use recreation and community center in the county.
According to Commissioner Paul O'Neal, Currituck officials have long discussed the idea of a county recreation center, and have even set aside between $15 million and $18 million in a reserve account for such a facility.

South Hampton Roads YMCA offers families fitness packages, health and nutrition classes, child care, yoga, cycling as well as swim fitness. Membership also includes access to all South Hampton YMCA facilities, including locations in Elizabeth City and Dare County.

National Volunteer Week - April 19-25, 2009, Celebrating People in Action, captures the meaning behind this signature week: honoring the individuals who take action and solve problems in their communities. This celebratory week will also focus national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic leadership.
Soul Africa
Kinobe & Soul Beat Africa, here April 24, 7:00.
Kinobe Herbert is a young talented musician from Uganda who is already receiving acclaim throughout Africa, Europe and America. Kinobe started played music at the age of 5. In May 2007, he released his debut album, Soul Language, which reflects his roots in traditional Ugandan acoustic music. With his band Soul Beat Africa, Kinobe blends traditional instruments from Africa with modern instrumentation to create a unique African-World music, bringing together rhythms from Africa, Asia, America, and the Caribbean.

The group will be in our community for a week and this will be their first performance, come welcome them and be prepared to sing! Donations welcome,  Potluck reception to follow. Sponsored by Dare County Arts Council!

To be held at the Outer Banks Yoga and Pilates Center.
