Wish #1
Everyone would sponsor one child for one year for Imagination Library
Through Imagination Library, local children can receive a new hardback book once a month until their fifth birthday. The program was started by Dolly Parton in Tennessee in 1995. There are now 732 programs nationwide - 20 of those in North Carolina. Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County, a nonprofit that promotes early childhood education, is bringing Imagination Library to local children. The cost to sponsor one child for 1 year is $27. Donate by calling Brenda O'Donnell at 441-0614. |
Wish #5
Follow the suggestions of Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat.
You Are What You Give Because of the worldwide financial crisis, many charities are wondering if their end-of-the-year donations will be "off" in 2008. When most of us are being forced to make hard decisions about where to put our limited resources, what will we reveal about who we are by what we give?
We propose that it's not how much we are each able to give that matters as much as that we give regularly. Even if this year's contributions can't match our patterns from the past, we can continue our commitments and reaffirm our intention to be connected. Generosity is a spiritual practice that reflects an attitude of heart and mind. And it can be a daily habit. basis.

Peace of Mind for Everyone
NAMI Wake Report provides new evidence that people with mental illness in NC are worse off now than when the state began "Mental Health Reform" in 2001. The mission of NAMI North Carolina is to promote recovery and optimize the quality of life for those living with mental illness. Let's make it happen here.
