DDC & DCCB TO APPEAR AT THE DENTON ARTS & JAZZ FESTIVAL
Saturday, April 30th
1-2:30pm
Traditionally,Arts & Jazz Festival is a business decision determined by class attendance, polish, whether or not the choreography is complete, age and level of the dancers, etc. DDC's appearance needs to give a very brief and bold statement about what we do--in other words, we combined a performance opportunity with an advertising opportunity. If your child's class is not in the informal appearance, please come and support the other dancers! Classes that are asked to perform, will receive a handout in class by April 15th
participation in the.

Ages 4-7 learn to enjoy ballet and jazz technique!
|
DANCEcamp DATES SET!!!
DANCEcamp will be taught by Lisa Racina, Jasmine Jaramillo, and Hannah Briggs this year. As many of you may know, DANCEcamp is a little different from regular dance classes throughout the year. Not only do we have a ballet and a jazz class, but we also have snacks, watch a video of a classical ballet, and do all kinds of arts and crafts that help young dancers learn ballet vocabulary, basic nutrition, anatomy, and a bit of dance history! DANCEcamp is a perfect opportunity to "catch up" or "get ahead" when it comes to technique and memory skills. By the end of the week, the dancers will perform in an informal showing for parents and take home their DANCEcamp scrapbook that they make! It's a nuturing and fun atmosphere to dance and learn! DON'T WAIT TO SIGN UP, AS SPACE IS VERY LIMITED!
- DANCEcamp 1:Ages 4/5, June 6-10, 10am-12noon
- DANCEcamp 2:Ages 6/7, June 13-17, 10am-12:30pm
- No DANCEcamp 3 this year because Ms. Lisa's company is going to AUSTRIA! Ages 8-11 will have DANCEcamp again next year!
DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR DANCECAMP IS MAY 21ST!

MAKE-UP CLASSES to Begin Sat., April 2nd!
Remember that tremendously cold, icy, snowy first week in February? DDC was closed for the first time ever five days in a row! We are using Good Friday, April 22 to make up the Friday classes we missed, but we are having to use Saturdays in April and May to make up the almost 30 classes that had to be cancelled! Our teachers have made extra effort to be able to attend these make-up classes and Miss Lisa is working the Denton City Contemp-orary Ballet's rehearsal schedule around these hours. We have avoided classes on the Saturday before Easter and the Saturday of the Arts and Jazz Festival.
PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THESE MAKE-UP CLASSES, as the teachers are planning to rehearse recital pieces and you don't want to miss out!

Why Can't I go "en pointe" yet? | | Requirements for Pointe |
All young ballet students aspire to be en pointe. However, there are many requirements that must be met before a student is determined strong enough. Charles Maple explains some of these requirements in this week's podcast! Note: always get approval from your ballet instructor prior to beginning.
At many of the highest respected schools in the country, young ladies are not allowed to go "en pointe" until the age of 13 along with other physical developement and technical requirements discussed in the video above. At DDC, we put dancers ages 10+ into a beginning pointe class one hour per week for one year on FLAT shoes. The second year these dancers are in the pointe class, and as they turn 11 years old, their "readiness" for pointe shoes is considered as explained in the above video. The bones in the feet are NO LAUGHING MATTER and we take the dancers' developement very seriously.
Please help us by making sure your dancer understands that sometimes we just have to wait until the physical developement of the dancer "catches up" with her mental developement. Denton Dance Conservatory prides itself on doing what's best for the dancer in matters of this sort, and it has been very rewarding watching our dancers achieve their goals "en pointe!"
