DDC's "Winter Wonderland of Dance"
December 13 & 14 at DDC
As many of you have heard, DDC is preparing our dancers for an informal showing of their talents to families on Monday, December 13th and Tuesday, December 14th in studio A at DDC! The dancers and teachers have worked hard on choreography, and it is almost ready!!! Because we have so many classes and not very much room for observers, we are planning to have 3-5 classes per one hour time slot perform during that Monday and Tuesday with a 30 minute break between the "showings" in order to allow the parking lot to empty and fill for the next showing. Keep in mind that we haven't done this before, so everything is a wonderful "experiment!" I know the dancers are excited to demonstrate their skills to all their parents!
After each showing, the dancers are invited to take photos with "A Gift for Emma" characters (don't forget your camera and video cameras!) in the back lobby, and then on to our "Cottage" studio out front where they can get their faces painted for a $3 donation to our dance company, the Denton City Contemporary Ballet, and have some refreshments! Then it's on to the next group of dancers!
The schedule of which classes will be performing and when is posted in the hallway at DDC and will also be on our website after Friday, Nov. 19th at
www.DentonDance.com
WE ALSO NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS TO BRING COOKIES/TREATS FOR THE DANCERS. PLEASE SIGN UP ON BULLETIN BOARD AND DELIVER ON SATURDAY, DEC. 11TH BETWEEN 9:30AM-1PM |

PILATES is Back!!! DDC Welcomes Former DDC Dancer, Julie Pavelek to Teach
Pilates exercises focus on posture, strength, and flexibility - all three are important components for any good dancer. The use of Pilates results in a strengthening of the upper body that enhances a dancer's balance, alignment of body parts, better posture while still or turning, and other spinal muscle alignments. Pilates exercises are also good at lower body parts like the ankles and feet that play a key role in any form of dance.
Benefits of Pilates
- Flat Abdominals, Powerful Core
- Lean, Fit and Flexible Muscles
- Spinal Mobility and Healthy Back
- Restored Posture
- Greater Balance
- Functional and Integrated Movement
- Coordination
Former DDC student, Julie (Spector) Pavelek danced "through the ranks" at DDC starting when she was 8 years old until she graduated from high school in 2001. She was a member of the first Denton Youth City Ballet company and later a principal dancer with the Denton City Contemporary Ballet. In 2002, she attended Texas A&M University where she studied kinesiology, dance and Pilates. After graduating and dancing professionally for a few years, she began teaching dance and directing drill teams in public schools in the Houston and Dallas areas. She taught for several years before taking time off to have a baby. After a complicated pregnancy and delivery, Pilates restored her mobility, strength and flexibility. Julie believes that "movement heals" and that Pilates is a perfect means to that end. She is certified through Power Pilates and continues to dance, run, and take a yoga or Pilates class every day. She lives in Plano with her husband, Dustin, and her son, Carson.
