| What's Going On at DDC!!! |
Greetings DDC Dancers & Parents,
Can you believe how time flies!!? It's already the end of October and the holidays are just around the corner. If you are cast in our holiday production, "A Gift for Emma," you will be receiving your "Gift for Emma Planner" in the mail this week. Please read it carefully as a few things have changed this year. I must say that overall, the rehearsal process is going wonderfully for all of our classes, the Denton City Contemporary Ballet and the Denton Youth City Ballet. Dancers have been very studious about remembering choreography, attendance has been great, and parents have been very helpful!
Those dancers that are not involved in the holdiay production are learning many new steps and several of our instructors already have ideas for the spring recital!
I must thank everyone for being so diligent when it comes to keeping ill dancers at home, and I so appreciate all the dancers helping to disinfect the barres and pilates/yoga mats in between classes. Keep up the good work for the health and safety of all our dance family!
DON'T FORGET TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR HALLOWEEN COSTUME DRESS UP DAYS, October 28, 29, 30, & 31! Bring a camera!
Sincerely,
Lisa Racina DentonDanceConservatory 940-383-2623

DDC Welcomes New Ballet Instructor!
As many of you know, Ms. Michelle Contrino has been offered a Professorship at Southeast Missouri State University to teach dance. This position is quite a wonderful opportunity for Ms. Contrino and we all wish her the best!
Taking her place, will be another graduate of Texas Woman's University, Ms. Kihyoung Choi. Ms. Choi will be teaching the Ballet Level VI and Ballet Level VII on Thursdays starting in November.
Kihyoung Choi, professional dancer, choreographer, researcher, and teacher, is from Seoul, Korea. She holds a Ph.D. in dance from Texas Woman's University where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society. She received M.A. in dance kinesiology, specializing in biomechanical analysis of ballet movements, from Yonsei University. She graduated from Sungkyunkwan University as valedictorian with a B.F.A. in dance. Dr. Choi began her professional dance training in Yewon Art Middle School in Seoul, Korea where she rigorously studied ballet, Korean traditional dance, and modern dance. She has performed as a professional dancer since the age of 12 and performed with the Korean National Ballet Company and Sangmook Chae Traditional Korean Dance Company. Her doctoral study and extensive experience in performance and choreography at local, regional and international venues deepened her cross-cultural sensitivity as well as her teaching philosophy. As a teacher, she strongly believes that teaching dance is not just about teaching technical skills, but rather about creating an empowering classroom where teacher and students can actively interact and collaborate while challenging one another. Dr. Choi is currently teaching various dance theory and studio courses at the University of North Texas and at Tarrant County College as well as dancing with two professional dance companies, Satellite Dance and Muscle Memory Dance Theatre. We look forward to working with Ms. Choi and I know she is looking forward to working with our dancers as well!

Professional Dancers to Perform in "Emma!"
Last year's pas de deux couple, Maiko Abe & Shea Johnson (right) "brought the house down!" And this year's dancers promise to do the same! We have booked Ms. Sunni Wright and Mr. Roman Nikiforov, both of the Metropolitan classical Ballet in Arlington to perform the "Nutcracker Pas de Deux" toward the end of our show!
Sunni Wright was born in Irving, Texas. She began her training at Riley's. She continued her ballet training at Forcher's Dance Center. She has also performed and trained with Natalie Krassovska's Ballet Junesse. Sunni studied summers at The Rock School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Ballet Magnificant in Jackson, Mississippi. She has performed with the Moscow State Ballet, the Irving Ballet Company and has been a featured dancer with Momentum Dance Company. Sunni has been in several productions with Metropolitan Classical Ballet.
Roman Nikiforov, a native of Ulan-Ude, Russia, Mr. Nikiforov began his training at the prestigious Krasnoyarsk National Ballet Academy. Upon graduation he joined the Krasnoyarsk National Opera and Ballet Theater. Soon after, he received an invitation to become a dancer with the Russian State Ballet of Moscow under the direction of Vyacheslav Gordeyev. He joined Ballet Internationale in the U.S. in 2004. Roman's repertoire includes many Russian Classical ballets, and he has performed featured roles in IBC's Paquita, The Nutcracker, On Earth We Stand and Phantom of the Opera. Roman joins the Company this season.
We are very excited to have professionals such as these on stage with our dancers! What an experience to remember!!! |

Holiday Production Fee Changes
As most of you know, if your dancer is participating in "A Gift for Emma," you will need to pay a Production Fee which goes to help offset the costs of putting on such a large show. We are reducing the amount that FAMILIES have to pay from $40 per dancer to $60 per family in order to "ease the pain"! If you have just one dancer in the show, you are still required to pay the $40.
Production Fees are due by November 5th. These fees have not been automatic-ally deducted if you are on our Autopay Tuition Plan. |
