Sound, visionary stewardship
Welcome Greetings!
Happy summer!
Last week Bill and I went to Washington, DC as part of a group from the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. It was an exciting trip since Congress was in session. We attended some terrific briefings at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the American Petroleum Institute and the American Enterprise Institute.
We also met with our delegation from MA including our Senators, Congressmen and their staff. We walked through lots of tunnels and even got to take the congressional "subway". It was fun and productive.
Plus, we had a few hours for fun and popped into a museum or two.
We wish you a fabulous and safe Independence Day with your family and friends.
Cheers,
p.s. Did you catch our Market Commentary earlier this month? If not, take a read now.

From Bill's corner...
Take care in choosing a trustee Poor estate planning can be disastrous. I've witnessed some of the best plans crumble because of an inexperienced trustee. A lot of planning goes into setting up a trust; however, choosing the right trustee is often an afterthought. You may want to rethink naming a close friend or relative as a trustee for your trust. The responsibilities of a trustee are enormous. In practice, regular everyday folks are named as trustees on trust documents, but those individuals may lack the proper training to execute the terms of the trust in a proper manner.

8 hand-holding tips if your child gets in trouble with the law
Summertime, and the living is easy-unless you have teenage kids. Few events summon as much anxiety as a phone call from the police station letting you know that your child has been arrested, is in custody, or is just being questioned. Even if things don't get quite that far, end of school pranks, daring friends and too much free time can tip even good kids over the line.

Avoid fireworks at the family summer home
Christine Kutt's family had shared a lake home in Walworth County, Wis., since 1951. So it seemed right for the 57-year-old to pour $120,000 of her own money to fix up the place and also pay the property taxes.
In return, her mother put a provision in her trust stipulating that Ms. Kutt's investment would be returned to her as an ownership stake in the property when the mother passed away.
The problem: The mother failed to tell her other children about it-for years.
