Greetings!
Welcome to a new school year! This is our first Health & Wellness Matters e-newsletter -- a space to share exciting updates, useful resources and upcoming events regarding comprehensive student health. We have meetings and trainings planned for the upcoming school year that will provide meaningful opportunities to discuss and share strategies to best meet the physical, mental and emotional health needs of Contra Costa County students.
I am available if you have any questions or are seeking additional student health resources. Sincerely, Emily Justice Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE)

What is TUPE?
Tobacco Use Prevention Education
90% of current adult tobacco users began under the age of 18. Over 30% began under the age of 13.
The purpose of the Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program is to reduce youth tobacco use by helping young people make healthful tobacco-related decisions through tobacco-specific educational instruction and activities. This comprehensive program includes primary prevention through classroom curriculum and school-wide events, intervention for current users, and cessation services for those wishing to quit.
Local education agencies who are currently certified as tobacco-free are eligible to apply for TUPE funding through the California Department of Education.
Districts that currently have TUPE grants are:
- Antioch Unified*
- Brentwood Union
- Byron Union*
- CCCOE - Court and Community Schools*
- Liberty Union
- Mt. Diablo Unified
- Pittsburg Unified
- San Ramon Valley Unified
- West Contra Costa Unified*
For more information, visit our TUPE webpage.
