Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 Feeling Lucky? There is Gold in Sparta
Beginning Friday, October 12,the Sparta Revitalization
Committee will be hiding a pot of gold in Chamber retail shops in Sparta. Look for the sign to identify a participating merchant and then be the first lucky shopper to find the pot of gold each week. Simply point out the location of the pot of gold to a store employee and receive a winner token. Tokens can be redeemed at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce for a $30 gift certificate to spend with Chamber merchants. This promotion will continue for ten weeks until December 14. Only ten tokens will be given out so be on the lookout for the pot of gold!

 Music on the Deck
Harmony Hill Bed and Breakfast will be hosting music every Friday night, 7-9p, for the month of October. Pack a lawn chair and come enjoy local talent and beautiful fall views. McRitchie Winery and Ciderworks will be at Harmony Hill each Friday night to sell their wine.

Suicide Prevention Walk
The forth annual Walk Out of Darkness event will be held on Saturday, October 13, at 10a. Alleghany Lives is sponsoring the walk which will begin at Sparta Methodist Church and end at Crouse Park. Ricky Brown will be speaking at the park about suicide prevention and the group will plant a tree with a small marker noting that is was donated by Alleghany Lives. Festival of Pumpkins at Farmer's Market
This Saturday marks the last day of the Farmer's Market until May of 2013. From 8a to 1p, a Pumpkin Festival, featuring carved pumpkins from a dozen artists in the community, is planned to celebrate this year's market. Participating artists include Will Fernandez, Robin and Daniel Cater, Chris Davis, Deb Donaldson, Judy Carmichael and Chris Durgin. The artists' pumpkins will be sold via silent auction to the highest bidder and proceeds will underwrite educational programs through the market.

Alleghany Wellness Center Corn hole Tournament
The first annual tournament is Saturday, October 13, beginning at 2p at the Alleghany High School Old Gym. This is a double elimination tournament and side games and concessions will be available. Call or visit the Wellness Center to register. Registration is $20 per team. Prizes include: 3 month family membership to the Wellness Center, 1 month individual membership, Wellness Center T-Shirts, Wellness Center day/class passes and more. 336-372-2944

Fall Heritage Music Series
The Fall Heritage Music Series continues this Sunday with Event Songs and Ballads at 2p at the Blue Ridge Music Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This program features Kinney Rorrer, Darren Moore, Elizabeth LaPrelle, and Jim Marshall. The last program of the series on October 21 at 2p features a tribute to Galax Fiddler, Emmett Lundy. Tuesday, October 16, from 6p to 8:30p, Wilkes Community College, Alleghany Campus, is presenting "Customer Service: The Key to Business Health and Success". Studio Tour Next Weekend
Join local artists as they open their studios for the NC Mountain Arts Adventure studio tour. The tour is from Friday, October 19 until Sunday, October 21. Twelve artists will participate and will be open from 10a to 5p, all weekend. Get to know the artists and craftspeople, watch them at work, and shop in their unique studio and gallery settings. Hillbilly Variety Show
The 2012 Hillbilly show will take place on Saturday, October 20 at 7p at the Sparta Auditorium. Hillbilly Wes will be hosting and tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children 6-12. Children under 6 get in free.

This is our local program for Special Olympics of North Carolina. This organization provides year-round sports training and competition for athletes with intellectual disablilities. Annual Halloween Trunk or Treat
Crouse Park will be the location of the Trunk or Treat again this year which will take place on October 31 from 5-7p. Everyone is invited to take part in this event.
