Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Chamber to Award Members

Chamber members and the public are invited to the Chamber's Awards Banquet Friday, November 2, at Olde Beau. The Chamber will be recognizing Food Lion as Business of the Year, Solid Rock Food Closet for its service to the community and be recognizing Chamber Member Rob Mangum for his lifelong commitment to the arts in Alleghany County. The evening will begin with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. Dinner and the program begins at 7:30. The main entree of the three-course meal is a petite sirloin and honey glazed salmon. Tickets are $35 and are available at the Chamber and from Chamber Board Members. 336-372-5473

Civil War Program
This Hometown and Heritage Program is presented by Michael Hardy at the Alleghany County Library. When it comes to the Civil War, very few people are better at finding specific information and facts and effectively putting pen to paper than Avery County resident, Civil War historian and multi-published author Michael Hardy.The program will be at 7p on Thursday, September 27. The Alleghany Historical-Genealogical Society and Alleghany County Library are co-sponsoring the event. 336-372-5573. 
Wood Turning Demonstration
The Alleghany Arts Guild features wood turning artist, Jay Collins. The program will be at the Alleghany Arts and Crafts Gallery, Thursday, September 27, at 6p. Light refreshments will follow the 30 minute demonstration. 336-363-3008.
Monthly Wine Tasting and Businesses Open Late
Friday, September 28, Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop will be hosting their monthly wine tasting. There is a $5 cover and tastings begin at 6p. They offer an extensive wine list, so stop by to see which ones will be featured this month. 336-372-7888 Several stores will be open late on Friday so please take a stroll down Main Street and  patronize the shops after enjoying your wine. 

New Member Spotlight: Mary M Lee      
Mary M Lee, LCSW provides individual psychotherapy sessions to help adults who are experiencing life transitions. Music on The Deck
Harmony Hill Bed and Breakfast will be hosting music every Friday night, 5-7p, for the month of October. Pack a lawn chair and maybe a bottle of wine and come enjoy local talent and beautiful fall views. The list of musicians and dates are:

15th Annual Wine Tasting
