Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Community Health Fair 
This year Alleghany Memorial Hospital is teaming up with Blue Ridge Electric to help the community get healthy. Thursday, September 20, come learn about CPR, infection control, sleep disorders, and many more hospital services at the Blue Ridge Electric Office. There will be free services offered including blood pressure checks, and blood sugar testing. AMH staff will be onsite educating people and offering screenings on diabetes, strokes, COPD, and women's health. Complete blood work testing will also be available. This test would normal cost up to $400 but thanks to a grant from the Blue Ridge Electric Members Foundation, it is only $25. Blood work testing does require fasting and a reservation. Please call 336-372-3129, there are a few reservations left. You only have until 4:30p on Wednesday, September 19 to make a blood work appointment.

Music at Nikola's 
Nikola's restaurant in Roaring Gap will be host live music on Friday and Saturday nights this weekend. Friday, September 21, Robin Cater and Will Fernandez will be performing beginning at 7p. The Sparta Lions Club Sponsors Bloodmobile
Monday, September 24, The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Sparta United Methodist Church from 9a-2p. The Lions Club is sponsoring this blood drive due to the need for all types of blood. Dialogue Matters Discussion Group
 
This month's discussion is on the book, Imagine by Jonah Lehrer and exploring "the deep inventiveness of the human mind." The group will meet on Monday, September 24, at 11:15a in the Blue Ridge Development Center. Bring a bag lunch and join in. This new variety store has opened at 15 North Main Street, the old location of Backwoods Bean. Owned by Carol Stolt and Shelley Williams, Kaquoli Jayli sells jams, jellies, baked goods, sewing necessities, including material and thread.
