Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Meeting of the Minds: Show 7
 
Presented by ACT Readers Theatre, the 7th show of Meeting of the Minds is a continuation of the discussion with Susan B. Anthony, Sir Frances Bacon, Emiliano Zapata and Socrates. With 3 chances to catch the show, don't miss it. Tuesday September 11, the show will be at River Country Estates at 7p. Thursday, September 13 at Alleghany Senior Center at 7p and Friday, September 14 at the Library at 7p. Celebrating One Year on Main
Studio Redwood and Murphy's Mercantile will be having an Open House, Thursday, September 6 from 5-7p. Studio Redwood's "Salebration" event includes refreshments, door prizes, free painting demonstrations and more! Murphy's Mercantile is hosting "Ladies Night Out" with scarf demos and new merchandise as well as refreshments, door prizes and free gifts for the first 20 ladies. Spaghetti Supper
Ray and Shirley McCraw of Sparta Produce invites the community to a Benefit Spaghetti Supper at Whitehead Community Center, September 8, from 5-7p. Tickets are available in advance for $5 or at the door for $6.50. One ticket includes a spaghetti plate, bread, desserts, and a drink. Carry out is available as well as delivery to a limited area. Self Defense Class 
Joe Flowers will be instructing this two part class on Monday, September 10, and September 17, at 7p. Joe is a Martial Arts Instructor at the Alleghany Wellness Center, where he regularly teaches kids and adults martial arts. He teaches Shotokan Karate, and also teaches techniques from Judo, muay thai, brazilian ju-jitsu, and tae-kwon-do. He will be teaching real world defense skills and drills, and also talk about awareness at the library. There is no charge for attending the class but pre-registration is requested. Republican Election Headquarters Grand Opening
The Republican Party of Alleghany invites everyone to stop by their 2012 Election Headquarters at 18 S Main Street this Saturday, September 8, at 11:30a.  Mountain Heritage Festival September 15
This year's festival is fast approaching and we have an outstanding list of entertainers, including Kelley and the Cowboys. 
Over 100 demonstrators, craft and food vendors will line Main Street from 10a-4:30p. Forest Ridge Assisted Living Fall Festival
The second-annual Fall Festival is slated for September 15, at 12 noon at Forest Ridge Assisted Living at 151 Village Park Drive in West Jefferson. The festival offers an array of entertainment, including music from local talents, hay rides, inflatables for the kids, and a good ole' fashioned pig pickin'. Festivities are planned to run through 4pm. The kick off at Noon includes musical performances by various bluegrass bands and Ashe County High marching bands. The festival is just one part in a week filled with events. The week of September 9 through September 15 is National Assisted Living Week and Forest Ridge is offering many events throughout the week to celebrate including an antique car show, a Talent Show, and more. Art Classes Offered at Studio Redwood
Chris Davis, local artist and shop owner, will be offering art classes for youth and adults during the Fall and Winter months. 
Adult Art Classes~ $15/ class Wednesdays, 10-Noon Beginning September 19.
After School Art Classes~Ages 6-12 $10/class plus $25 supply fee. 
Wednesdays, 2:30-3:30 & 4:30-5:30 Begins September 19. 
6 Beginning Faux Finishes~ $195 All Supplies Furnished Wednesday, Dec. 5th, 10a-3p or Saturday, Dec. 8th 10a-3p.
