Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Fight Hunger with Fried Pies a Music in the Park event benefiting the Solid Rock Food Closet. Fried Pies is a classic rock band with members from Alleghany and surrounding counties. Admission is free but attendees are asked to bring canned food or a non-perishable food item to donate to the Food Closet. Music begins at 6p on Saturday, September 1. Concessions will be available. Bring your lawn chairs and dancin' shoes for the last Music in the Park event of the year. 
Hasley Drug Meet & Greet 
Come out on Friday, August 31, to meet the new pharmacist at Halsey Drug. Miranda Hurley, an Alleghany native, has joined Halsey's staff. After graduating from Alleghany High School in 2003, Hurley attended NC State University and then continued to ETSU for her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Randi is certified to give vaccinations and flu shots as well as MTM certified and can counsel patients on their medications. She will be on-site Friday to assist patients and answer any questions they may have. Halsey Drug will be providing hotdogs and drinks and there will be give-a-ways as well. The Meet and Greet will begin at 11a and wrap up at 2p. For more information contact Halsey Drug at 372-5599. 
Music at the Library 
Thursday, August 30 at 7p Robin Cater and Will Fernandez will be performing at the Alleghany County Library. This Hometown and Heritage program is sponsored by the Alleghany Arts Council with partial funding from a NC Arts Council Grassroots Grant. Businesses Open Late 8/31
Several downtown businesses will be open late on Friday, August 31. Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop will have their monthly wine tasting from 6-8p featuring wines from Shelton Vineyards. Rob Mangum and Donna Lama will also be there performing. Studio Redwood, Murphy's Mercantile, Farmer's Hardware, Touch of Grace, Kaquoli Jayli, Season's, and Gill's Jeans & Things will all be open until 6:30p. Imaging Specialist will be open until 8p. After work on Friday come downtown to unwind, do some shopping, try some new wine and enjoy the music! 
Business After Hours 
The Rotary Club of Alleghany invites everyone to come to their Business After Hours, Thursday, August 30 from 5-7p at the AMH Solarium. Learn about the club and their contributions to local non-profits and charities. The Rotary will be presenting a brief program at 6p and there will be drinks and hors d'oeuvres provided. Tell them how they can get you to join!
Celebrating One Year on Main
Studio Redwood and Murphy's Mercantile will be having an Open House, Thursday, September 6 from 5-7p. Studio Redwood's "Salebration" event includes refreshments, door prizes, free painting demonstrations and more! Murphy's Mercantile is hosting "Ladies Night Out" with scarf demos and new merchandise as well as refreshments and door prizes. Spaghetti Supper
Ray and Shirley McCraw of Sparta Produce invites the community to a Benefit Spaghetti Supper at Whitehead Community Center, September 8 from 5-7p. Tickets are available in advance for $5 or at the door for $6.50. One ticket includes a spaghetti plate, bread, desserts, and a drink. Carry out is available as well as delivery to a limited area.  Mountain Heritage Festival September 15
This year's festival is fast approaching and we have an outstanding list of entertainers, including Kelley and the Cowboys. 
Over 100 demonstrators, craft and food vendors will line Main Street from 10a-4:30p. Visit the Mountain Heritage page for more information and updates on the Festival. The same weekend, the Native American Powwow will be in town at the Alleghany Fairgrounds, beginning on Friday, September 14 at 4p and continuing through Saturday.
