Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 7p and the first Friday of every month at 7p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 Music in the Park, this Saturday features Paula Dellenback and Fox River band at Crouse Park. Bring your lawn chairs and come enjoy some bluegrass music. Featuring original songs by Paula and a mix of traditional and progressive music. The group consists of Paula Dellenback, lead vocalist and rhythm guitar; Casey McPherson, banjo; Jeremy Gauvin, vocals and guitar; Dan Gates, bass; Cindy McPherson, vocals; and Jeffery Roten, mandolin. Music starts at 6p, August 4 in Crouse Park. |
Mud Slingin' Saturday The Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. will be hosting the Mud Sling, Saturday, August 4 at the Fairgrounds. Gates open at 2p and competition begins at 4p. If you dare to enter, registration begins at 11a. Come check out the "King of the Mountain Race" featuring trucks with unlimited size and power. Admission is $10, children under 12 are free with paying adult. A cash prize drawing will also be held. All proceeds benefit the Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department. The Magic Show Grand Opening The Magic Show at 22 S Main Street will be presenting a brand new show. Featuring Michael Keating, Saturday, August 4 at 1p, come experience magic unleashed. Tickets available at the door, $10 for Adults, $5 for children 12 & under. Seating is limited so you may want to come early.

High Country Hospice Bowl-a-thon The 2nd Annual bowling tounament will be held Saturday, August 11 at River Rock Grill and Sparta Family Fun Center. The full day of bowling begins at 9a with 30 teams. There will also be a silent cake and artisan craft auction, 50/50 raffle. The winning team holds the trophy until next years competition. Guaranteed good food, good fun and good family entertainment all for a great cause. Entry fee is $100 per team. For more information or to register call 336-372-8018 or visit their website. A Summer's Evening Wine Tasting and Dinner The Alleghany Community Foundation sponsors this sumptuous evening at the Olde Beau Clubhouse of wine tasting and a multi-course dinner with wine to suit each course as well as an explanation of why each wine was chosen. Tickets are $75 each. There are two evenings of wine tasting, August 10 and August 25 beginning at 6p.
