Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 8p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse. 336-372-4591
Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
GREAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ANYTIME
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

 SpartaFest presented by Sparta Lions Club, begins tonight at 6p at Alleghany Fairgrounds with a Cornhole Tournament. Teams will be selected by a blind draw. Entry fee is $20 per person. Prizes include: $300 for 1st, $200 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd. Concessions will also be available. Call 336.200.3000. The fun continues Saturday night at the Alleghany Community Auditorium. The concert starts at 5p with performances by Golden Platter, For His Glory, George and Kim Sheets with Bill Joines, and the Couch Family. Tickets $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. A correction to last week's Brief. Buckaroo's Grille at the intersection of NC 113 and 93 in Piney Creek is open noon to 9p Thursday through Saturday and 11a-4p on Sunday. And their Bluffs Coffeehouse fried chicken is delicious!

Blueberries are in at the Alleghany Farmer's Market as well as homegrown vegetables and fresh meats. The market is open Saturdays from 8a-1p and Thursdays 4-6p at Crouse Park.

 ART IN THE BARN: Bring a little art into your life with a visit to Motsinger's Art in the Barn, 147 Camp Butler Road, July 5-7, 10a-4p. Some of the area's most experienced artists will be displaying jewelry, papermache, sculpture, pottery and more for sale. Pictured is Robin Cater of Cater Pots. Her husband Daniel will have some of his metal sculpture for sale.

 Kelley and the Cowboys perform next Saturday, July 14 in Crouse Park at 6p. With a voice like Patsy Cline and a little Texas twang, this group will get your toes tappin'. If you miss them on Saturday, Kelley and the Cowboys will be back headlining the entertainment for the Mountain Heritage Festival on September 15.
