Come to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 8p. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse. 336-372-4591

Barn Quilt Trails: 
Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with normal squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Driving Loops: 
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
 
Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10a to 5p. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
 
Veterans' Morning Coffee at the VFW:

Biking Weekend 
 
Second Annual Tour de Mountains bike event is this Saturday, June 9. Registration is at 7a and the ride starts at 8:30a at Alleghany Wellness Center. With 25, 40, 60, 80, and 100 miles routes, there are courses for everyone. Enjoy the outdoors and fresh air as well as the breathtaking scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the New River. Proceeds from this event benefit the Alleghany Wellness Center. Call 336.372.2944.  
 
"Poker Run for Readers", a fundraiser for the Alleghany County Library, will begin at 8:30a on Saturday, June 9 at Freeborne's Eatery & Lodge in Laurel Springs. Registration is $25 for riders; $15 for passengers, which includes live music and a cookout that evening. There will be alternate routes for motorcycles and automobiles. Questions? Zephyr Lightning Bolts in Crouse Park
As part of the Music in the Park series, Zephyr Lightning Bolts will be performing on Crouse Stage, Saturday, June 9 at 6p. This Old Time band from Wilkes and Surry Counties has performed at Merlefest as well as several other area events and festivals. OPRY Variety Show
Held every 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, Silver Dollar Music Park hosts a variety show. Doors open at 5pm for dinner and shows start at 7pm. This Friday, June 8 is Cowboy Nite with music provided by Billy C Smith and The Real Deal. After the show, stay for live music and dancing until 10:30p. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children 12 and under.
Business After Hours at the Library 
Come out to the Library on June 14 from 5-7p for Business After Hours. Learn about the Library's summer programs and find out about their new website with online ebook checkout while enjoying some light refreshments. Don't forget to bring your business card to enter the drawing for door prizes. 336.372.5473 
Local Studios Open for Tour
The NC Mountain Arts Adventure begins again with twelve local artisans opening their studios and galleries. Friday, June 15 - Sunday, June 17, 10a-5p potters, jewelry makers, woodworkers, and even glass blowers, will be demonstrating their talents. If you can't get to all the studios on the tour, don't worry, there will be another chance in October to see all these gifted craftspeople again.  
BDL opens for Willie Nelson
June 16, local progressive bluegrass band, Big Daddy Love will open for Willie Nelson are scheduled to perform at Jomeokee Park in Pinnacle, NC. Hey guys, while you are there, see if you can talk Willie into doing a benefit concert for Sparta.
Volunteers needed for Dental Clinic 
Alleghany Cares is looking for volunteers and translators to assist Friday and Saturday, June 15 & 16, for the Dental Clinic at Alleghany High School. Hours range from 6a-5p on Friday and 6a-3p on Saturday. Please contact Vickie Scott at 336-372-5959.

The Carolina Cross Connection volunteers are in our area for the summer. This is a group of Christians who help folks with home repair needs. If you or someone you know can't afford the labor and/or materials for home repairs, these people may be able to help. 336.467.1862
