Memorial Day Celebration
Make plans to attend the Memorial Day celebration in a ceremony honoring Veterans on the Courthouse lawn in Downtown Sparta on Saturday, May 26. The event will begin at 1pm followed by the Memorial Day Parade down Main Street at 2pm.

Wine Tasting at Backwoods Bean
Sample the fruit of the vine at Backwoods Bean Coffee Shop on Friday. The wine tasting begins at 6pm and there is a $5 cover charge. Wine tastings are always the last Friday of the month. Questions? Call Selma at 336-372-7888 or check out their website.

Variety Show at Silver Dollar
Held every 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month, Silver Dollar Music Park hosts a variety show. Doors open at 5pm for dinner and shows start at 7pm. This Friday, May 25 is 50's Nite with music provided by Billy C Smith and The Real Deal. After the show, stay for live music and dancing until 10:30p. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for children 12 and under.

4th Annual Home Winemakers Showcase
Grapestompers at Thistle Meadow Winery hold their annual Winemakers Showcase on Sunday, May 27 12p-4p. Enter your homemade wines or just come for the tastings. Admission is free for attendees and everyone, of age of course, gets to be a wine judge for the day. Local artisans and craft vendors will also be onsite displaying their goods for sale. Mountain Storytelling
This Hometown & Heritage program at the Alleghany Library presents the Ammons Sisters, Thursday, May 31 at 7p. Featuring old time stories like those from our grandparents, this program is great for those of all ages. Sponsored by Alleghany Arts Council with partial funding from an NC Arts Council Grassroots Grant. Call the Library at 336-372-5573 for more information.

Wayne Henderson & Jeff Little at LUKEfest
 Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little headline this Music in the Park Kickoff on Sunday, June 3 at 2pm. Seven other bands will be performing throughout the day and concessions will be available on site. This is a benefit concert so admission is free but donations are greatly appreciated. Bring a lawn chair and come support those in need. All proceeds from this event benefit Alleghany High School students with overwhelming medical needs. Learn more at
