COK and Others Sue USDA for Allowing Sale of Foie Gras
Foie gras is, by definition, the product of a diseased animal. Ducks and geese are force-fed until their livers abnormally swell to the point of causing hepatic lipidosis, or fatty liver disease. According to a new lawsuit filed by COK and fellow animal protection groups, the USDA is required through the Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA) to condemn as adulterated all diseased poultry and should not allow foie gras to be sold.

Federal Hen Protection Bill Update - Act Now!
Earlier this year, Rep. Kurt Schraeder (D-Ore.) introduced the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments (HR 3798) that outlines a national ban on the use of barren battery cages for laying hens, and also includes several other important advancements for hens. This week, Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) introduced the Senate version of this bill (S 3239).
