Creative Holiday Classes
 | | Holiday Season Classes Begin! |
At this time of year, the shop becomes a hive of activity for holiday creativity as well as a refuge from football (I had to get that it in!). To this end, we'll go out of way to give you the means to express your creativity, create lasting heirlooms, and lift your spirits while doing so.
In this section, you'll see a few of the holiday classes we have highlighted for advanced enthusiasts who want to learn from challenging projects and for the beginner who wants to create something fun and easy for their first holiday projects.
New for this year, we are instituting a Holiday Class Discount.
Students of our classes will enjoy a 10% discount on any yarns and supplies needed for their holiday class projects.

Advanced Holiday
Classes
For this advanced classes, you'll join a specialized "Knit Along" or a "Crochet Along" group to create a Holiday Stocking using any pattern of your choice.
Regardless of the stocking pattern you choose, you will learn new techniques that make stunningly colorful and complex designs come to life, and we'll help you "get 'er done" in a fun and supportive environment.
Knitters will learn Intarsia, a technique used to bring fields of different colors and materials together in order to appear to be inlaid in one another, but are in fact all separate pieces, fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.

|
Alternatively, knitters will learn Fair Isle technique to make gorgeous stockings. To be ready for this class then please be sure to take the American (aka English Method) and European (aka Continental Method) classes first.

For Crochet, students will learn the tapestry, (aka Jacquard or Colorworks) technique, whereby yarns are switched back and forth to create motifs. The result looks so much like tapestry weaving that tapestry crocheted pieces may seem to have been made on a loom!

Alternatively, you can choose to make your holiday project with Tunisian Crochet techniques. This is a type of crochet that uses an elongated hook, often with a stopper on the handle end. It is sometimes considered to be a mixture of crocheting and knitting. As such, some techniques used in knitting are also applicable in Tunisian crochet. One example is the Intarsia method.

To help you enjoy creating your first projects for the holidays, our intimate approach will accelerate your skills and increase your confidence while helping you master the fundamentals, quickly.

Building Blocks Fall 2012 Begins
This is one of the most popular and rewarding programs at the Raging Wool Shop! One of my most satisfying and inspiring joys is watching students in this program increase their skills and confidence over the course of the year! Their progress is amazing! The Block of the Month Club is a 12 month knitting program whereby our inspired students learn a new technique every month and then combine and build upon the prior month's lessons. This approach allows you time to learn new skills in a stress-free, supportive environment, to see and make progress towards a goal, and, to enjoy seeing your friends on a regular basis.
Building Blocks
Begins Again in October!
If you'd like to join the program with the first lesson, please join the sequence that begins on:
Saturday, October 27th at 4 PM
or Wednesday, October 31st at 3 or 6 PM!
These classes occur on the last Saturday & Wednesday of each month, you only need to attend one session!
It's never too late to learn or join the program, so just drop in or give us call anytime!
Call or visit the shop if you have questions if you would like to join a class or workshop!

Greetings!
Last October, with strong encouragement from my family, my yarn stash, and my knitting friends, I fulfilled a dream, and opened up the Raging Wool Yarn Shop! It's been a fun year making new friends from around the corner, and from around the world, as they stop in and enjoy the special place that we envisioned the shop to become.
I've discovered that our customers visit the shop to feed their creativity, to discover unique yarns, to learn new skills, to seek personal assistance on their projects and to enjoy the fellowship and camaraderie of fellow yarn enthusiasts.
To celebrate our customers, I wanted to do something really special on the anniversary of our first year of business, in order to show our appreciation for their diversity, their creativity and their support of the shop.
Our very first ever "Anniversary and Customer Appreciation Party Weekend" will be held on the weekend of October 20 and 21. In the article below, you'll find a discussion about some of the fun activities and treats we have planned for your enjoyment! It isn't too late to Register your RSVP if you haven't already done so!
The past year could not have been the success it has been without the help and support from Sharon and Debra who run the shop while I'm out and who pitch in while I'm teaching a class or busy helping out a customer who needs special attention with their project. I also have to take a moment and thank a very special group of friends that we loving refer to as "The Knitting Co-Op" who give me strength, encouragement, ideas, support, advice and fellowship.
It is a joy to support such an interesting and vibrant fabric arts community! Our customers are so diverse! They span all skill levels, from beginners to masters, and they visit us from all points across South Florida, to seasonal visitors and tourists from across the nation, the Caribbean and Latin America. The Raging Wool Yarn shop will be your haven from hassle, and be the equivalent of a service plaza for your sanity, a tune-up for your creativity and a food court of collaboration and comfort to support your journeys.
I look forward to seeing you at the party and as a frequent visitor to what we aspire everyday to be: your absolutely favorite yarn shop!

Customer Appreciation Party!
Raging Wool's First Anniversary Weekend, Oct 20 & 21
 | | We're Celebrating Customer Creativity! |
Sure, we know just how difficult it is to convince a "yarn skeptic" (some of us call them "the unenlightened") that a yarn shop even knows how to spell the word "party".
Well, we're here to help you prove them all wrong by giving you a great time, with a unique and differentiating "in real life" experience - which is what the fabric arts are all about!
Celebrating + Customer + Creativity = Prizes!
During the past year, our customers created a wide variety of beginner to advanced works. We're giving them (and you!), an opportunity to be recognized and appreciated for your skill and creativity.
Our elite group (and also easily bribe-able) judges will recognize the creativity that our customers demonstrated in the following categories:
- Awesomest Authentic Afghan
- Amazing Artistic Artwork
- Blazingly Bold Beginner
- Colorful Cowl Creation
- Glorious Glamorous Gloves
- Absolutely Ambitious UFO (Un-Finished Object)
- Shamelessly Sexy Shawl
- Soothingly Sweet Socks
- Sweetest Stylish Sweater
- Unusually Unique Undertaking
Each winner will receive a $25 Raging Wool Gift Certificate along with a great deal of celebratory toasts!
To participate, simply bring the project you are most proud of, that was constructed using any of the materials you purchased from the shop in the past year!
French + Italian + Americas = Food Galore!
We will be featuring an amazingly delicious array of delicacies, appetizers, specialties and desserts from Cook In Paris, our favorite French Restaurant, which is rated in the top 2% of best restaurants in Pembroke Pines by TripAdvisor.
 | |
Cook in Paris
|
Additionally, we are featuring appetizers and pastas from Vignetos, one of our favorite authentic home style Italian Restaurants.
 | |
Vignetos
|
Many of the Raging Wool customers typically enjoy a lunch or dinner at Vignetos (or some of the other nearby restaurants) and then walk over to enjoy the shop.
On this weekend, we bring one of their favorites restaurants into the shop!
Well, what if you don't like French delicacies? What if you don't like Italian pastas and comfort food? Well, no worries! We'll be serving a wide array of other dishes that celebrate the USA and some of our latin neighbors to the south!
Yarn + Food + Wine + Prizes = That's a Party!
As our customers know, the Raging Wool carries the largest and most extensive selection of independent dyers from around the world. To celebrate the diversity of nations represented by the yarns in the shop, we'll feature a wine from each country that they originate from.
You will enjoy samples from different varietals from Australia, Brasil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Turkey, Uruguay and the United States!
With Wine tasting, Yarn Tasting, Food Tasting and the Celebration of Customer Creativity, we believe that you'll have a great time and be energized and inspired to be a frequent customer of the Raging Wool Yarn Shop!

Mountain Colors Hand Painted Yarns Cashmere and Silk Mountain Colors is a small business located in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. They produce multi-colored, hand dyed yarns for knitters, weavers, crocheters and other fiber artists. They began dyeing 19 years ago when they had young children at home, so they started hand dyeing beautiful high quality wools in their kitchens.
This is an absolutely lovely yarn. It is super soft with the glow of silk and is blend of 65% cashmere and 35% silk fingering weight. Loganberry is a very lacy crescent shawl with cable lace edging. This crescent-shaped shawl begins with a strip of lace edging worked on only 19 to 23 sts with an 8-row repeat. The cabled lace stitch pattern of the edging suggests the slightly oblong shape and seeds of the loganberry.
