This Week's Program

Our distinguised speaker this week

is Luc Robitaille, President of Business Operations for the 2012 Stanley Cup winners, the L.A. Kings!

Luc was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 and is the highest scoring left wing in NHL history and the all-time Kings leader in goals scored. He is in his fifth season as Kings President, Business Operations, and in his role Robitaille oversees all day-to-day business operations of the Kings, including Ticket Sales and Service, Sponsorship Sales and Service, Marketing, Fan Development and Community Relations, Group Sales, Fina nce, Broadcasting, Communications and Content, Game Presentation and Human Resources.

Since assuming the position on May 25, 2007, Robitaille has had a tremendous impact on the Kings business operations department specifically and the Kings organization on the whole as his experience as a former player brings a unique perspective to the business side of the club. The Kings have increased their number of sellouts at STAPLES Center each season since Robitaille took over, including 38 total sellouts this past season as the Kings made the playoffs for the second straight year, and under Robitaille's leadership the Kings' sponsorship and sales division set a franchise mark in annual revenues last year while the Kings also set a franchise mark for revenue.  Read more...

President's Message
Dear Fellow LA5 Rotarians and Friends:

Welcome to October, the month of Ghosts, Ghouls and Goblins... and Rotary's Vocational Service month!

Membership in Rotary is based on a member's Vocation, with each club striving to create a microcosm of its community's business and professional world. This unique feature provides the source for Rotary's historic commitment to Vocational Service, the second of Rotary's Five Avenues of Service. Through Vocational Service, Rotarians are expected to adhere to and promote high ethical standards in all their business dealings, recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations, and contribute their professional expertise and skills to addressing societal problems and needs. Members are expected to conduct their own business dealings in accordance with Rotary principles, including the Rotary Four Way Test.

The Fall is my favorite time of year and is best known for the start of college and professional football, LA Lakers and Clippers basketball and... LA Kings hockey!  So, please join us this Friday to meet LA Kings Hall of Famer and President Luc Robitaille - and invite a few dozen friends and hockey fans to celebrate our 2012 Stanley Cup Champions LA Kings!

As a final reminder, a delegation from LA5 will depart on Wednesday, October 17th to travel to Nagoya, Japan to celebrate our historic 50th Anniversary as Sister Clubs with the Rotary Club of Nagoya, Japan.  We will meet with the Nagoya mayor and attend the Nagoya Festival including an opportunity to ride on a Rotary float in the festival parade.  We will be the guests of honor at the Nagoya Rotary Club meeting on Tuesday, October 23 and after a farewell dinner, will return on Wednesday, October 24th.

I will continue on to Yangon, Myanmar to meet with the Charter President and officers of the charter Rotary Club of Yangon, Myanmar which may be extended in the coming months, bringing Rotary back to this country after 40 years of absence.

Please join us this Friday to meet Luc Robitaille and consider joining us for this historic trip to Nagoya, Japan and/or Myanmar.

Yours in Rotary service,

JAY A. RICHARDSON, GOTJ, CFA, CFP

Club President 2012-2013

Rotary Club of Los Angeles

Save the Date!  Paul Harris Luncheons

On Friday, October 26th, instead of meeting at the California Club, we will be having our Paul Harris Luncheons hosted by members at different locations throughout the city. There will be groups of 10 - 15 at each lunch which will give us an opportunity to get to know each other in a smaller sitting. The host will be treating you to lunch. However, there will be a $25.00 fee collected to attend the meeting. The proceeds from the luncheons will be sent to Rotary International for our Paul Harris contribution.

Currently, our hosts include Cindi Dietich, Volunteers of America; Ken Chong, Vice President, CIB Residential Real Estate; Johannes Masserer, General Manager, Patina Restaurant Group; Elizabeth Wheeler, President/CEO, PPG-LA; and Laine Wagenseller, Principal Attorney Wagenseller Law Firm.

Information on how to RSVP, method of payment, and locations of the meetings will follow in upcoming news articles in El Rodeo. In addition, there will be announcements from the podium and emails will be made from the Rotary office.

Please save the date, Friday, October 26, 2012 for the Paul Harris Luncheons. Guests are welcome to attend.
