Newsletter debut!
Staying in touch with Dance Out Diabetes
Greetings!

Why are you getting this newsletter? You have shown interest in Dance Out Diabetes in the past by either participating in one of the dances, volunteering, donating, or asking to sign-up for our newsletter.

Great news: we now have one! If you prefer not to get this, scroll down to the end and click "SafeUnsubscribe".

This will be a regular (primarily monthly) update to share what we are doing to prevent and manage diabetes through dance and education.

We won't ever share your email, nor bombard your inbox.

GROUPON joins Dance Out Diabetes!

We are excited to announce that we will be featured on Groupon.com, the popular daily deals & discounts site, with a G-Team campaign next week, January 10-12, 2012!

G-Team is a community outreach initiative within Groupon that brings communities together to do good, have fun, and make an impact. G-Team has been working in S.F. to help mission-driven organizations like ours raise money and raise awareness, channeling the collective buying power of Groupon followers and our local supporters.

We need your help to make this campaign successful:

100% of the proceeds raised through Groupon will go to Dance Out Diabetes - provided if the "deal" gets "tipped"

That means, when at least 40 people donate $10 from Jan. 10 through Jan. 12,
40 people get free access and A1C testing

at one Dance Out Diabetes event.

  1. Subscribe to Groupon in San Francisco by 1/9/12. (http://www.groupon.com/subscriptions/new).
  2. Check the daily Groupon e-mail to view our campaign, (on the right hand side of the main deal and under the list of daily deals).
  3. Support the campaign with a pledge and spread the word to friends and family, encouraging them to help.

Thank you for your support!  We'll send you a reminder next week, then you'll hear from us next in February.

New Dance Studio, New Dance Program
studio A

Building on the success of last year's At-Risk, First Steps Program (see the impressive results for yourself), we are starting a Dance Off the Weight Program. We will have many fun dances and monthly weight management tips from our expert registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, Michelle Barth. Learn more!

Thanks to a partnership with the African American Arts & Culture Complex at 762 Fulton Street, San Francisco 94102 (between Webster and Buchanan, with easy Muni access and plenty of free parking), we have secured donated space in DANCE STUDIO A! The mirrored walls in this charming third-floor studio provide a cozy atmosphere well-suited for our 2nd Saturday of every month dance class. Just come on in through the main entrance, walk straight toward the desk and hop on the elevators on your right to the 3rd Floor.

We will have signs to guide you.

Bring water, snacks; wear comfortable clothes and supportive shoes.

Please arrive promptly at 1 p.m. for check-in.
[Please note, we are a scent-free health organization.]

I'm NOT a Dancer!

Perfect. Neither are we. We are a caring community of people with and without diabetes and plenty of non-dancers! In fact, over 30% of those who come to dances, don't have diabetes; they are there to prevent it or support others who have it.

Hear from Kang, one of our regulars, directly. (Of course he gave me permission to post this! Click on YouTube button.)

Are you interested in dancing for the health of it? It's easy to get involved with our efforts, either by joining us on 1/14 for a little Zumba, by helping the Groupon campaign, or both, forwarding this to someone in need, and yes, the Like on Facebook would be nice!
