HR Tips and Techniques
Social Media and Job Search
Linked IN
Here is a quick article from INC.com titled "How One Job Candidate Wowed Me" which got me to thinking...

How are Career Development Practitioners leveraging their LinkedIN profile in their own personal job search?
  • Are they actively using key words?
  • Are they using LinkedIN to find new opportunities? They have a robust job board feature.
  • Are CDPs joining groups? Are they participating in groups and standing out as an expert in the field?
Then those questions led me to ask...
  • How are employers in the Career Development industry using LinkedIN to find their next hire?
Which of course led me to ask...Never mind How...Are they using LinkedIN at all?

When I looked through my connections and did a search, I found a lot of industry leaders are of course on LinkedIN and some even have some updated and excellent profiles.  The question remains however whether or not they are using LinkedIN to find talent. I don't know the answer to this however it does make me think we are in a chicken and egg situation.

Are they not using LinkedIN to find their next Career Development Practitioner because they don't see the value, or do they not see the value because the candidates have not leveraged their LinkedIN profile to show off who they are as a practitioner.

My suggestion would be that we all walk the talk of good job search and use the new tools that are available to us - and see what happens.  What have you got to lose? Who knows, by leveraging your profile, you might have an opportunity come to you that you never even imagined because they found you on LinkedIN.  It happens, I've seen it!

So - when are you going to update your LinkedIN profile?

PS.  I know, I know, mine needs updating as well - and I am actively working on it!
