Engaging Workplaces Around the WorldIssue No. 8

Greetings!

This week offers a great opportunity to read about how Canada is doing when it comes to employee engagement.  I believe fully in employee engagement (no surprise there!) but I also believe that an engaged employee in a disengaged workplace just doesn't last.  So I offer programs and services that support organizations in creating the kind of workplace environment that generates and sustains employee engagement.  If you want to know more about how to do this - just give me a call or email me!

Enjoy this week's article!

Regardless of where you are in the world, thanks for being a subscriber, enjoy your week and be in touch anytime!

Employee Engagement
How are we doing in Canada?  Not so good....

According to an article by Yahoo! Finance, Towers Watson, a professional services company, released the "Global Workforce Study" and it shows that 67% of Canadian workers are "not fully engaged in their work and are frustrated by insufficient support from their organizations".  This does not bode well for our national productivity levels or for the success of Canadian companies.
The article quotes three distinct elements for creating sustainable engagement in companies.
1.  traditional engagement
2.  enablement

3.  energy

This is what I mean about engaged workplaces - employees need to first be willing to give effort to the employer, but they also need to have the proper tools to do their job and they also excel when an environment provides the kind of support they need - whether it be natural light and windows that open, a coach that helps them create a career path or a team that works collaboratively.  Companies that think of these three areas, they are ones that will not just succeed but thrive in the coming decades.
This Yahoo! Finance article goes on to provide a nice summary of recommendations for employers looking to improve relationships with their employees:
  • The executive staff and human resource director should brainstorm to determine a unified path towards re-engaging with employees.
  • Determine if your hiring practices and performance management processes gel.
  • Embrace change management (defined as the management of change and development within a business). Have a solid plan in place.
  • Ensure there's effective communication between senior management and staff; don't just broadcast. Communication should always be two-way.
If you would like support and assistance to address any of these recommendations, then give me a call and let's create a path to engagement!
