HR Tips and Techniques
So, how you doing?

So, how would you say morale is doing in your organization? It has been a verrrrry slow start to summer weather, the spring was filled with upheaval and change and the learning curve on the new employment model is ongoing.  Do you feel you have your finger on the pulse of your employee's morale?
Inc.com recently published a very short, but effective, article on 3 Creative Ways to Boost Employee Morale.  Here they are in a nutshell (click on the title to see the whole article).
1.  Cultivate "stories of self". Know your employees and bring them together to share with each other why they are involved in your organization, why the work is important to them and how they are going to fulfill this why going forward.

2.  Contextualize your Mission. Bring people together and talk about how the mission of the organization is reflected in the work you do today. Bring together the stories of your history that reflect on your strength as an organization and if you are new, create dreams and visions that pull people towards the mission.

3.  Empower Intrapreneurs.  Encourage those with new ideas to come forth and prosper, to bring up new ways of doing things and to inspire change that makes life easier and better for all.

Granted, these are corporate ideas and the article is very American in nature but I still believe there are some nuggets of possibility here!

Thought for the Week

Hello everyone!

Over the last two days I have been learning the ins and outs of social media at Social Media Camp. There were 600 of us all together in Victoria!  It is the apparently the largest social media camp in North America!  I learned a lot and also was reminded of what I already know.

One of the themes that was threaded throughout the 2 days was a reminder that social media is about people and connections. It is about being authentic and about showing who you are to your audience.  As I think about this, I apply it to many situations and believe it is one and the same, regardless of the situation.

Questions that come to mind. . .

As a Job Seeker - am I bring my whole self to the way I write my resume and answer questions in an interview?

As a Career Practitioner - am I being genuine and open with my clients when I bring up new ways of looking at a situation?

As a Manager - am I being real with staff, showing them appreciation, finding teachable moments and acknowledging when I don't know the answer to something?

Each person will have their own answer to these questions, if at all, but it sure is interesting to ponder!

Thanks to all of you for subscribing and enjoy your week!
