Greetings!
What a difference a year makes: at this time last year we were stressing about flooding along the Missouri River which was impacting some of our itineraries. This year it's forest fires in the West, but fortunately there's good news to report at this time. The Waldo Canyon fire near Colorado Springs has been 100% contained and the area is once again welcoming visitors. Progress is reported at other locations as well. Pray for rain! |

New Mexico's Zuni Pueblo has been named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as the first Native Main Street Community in the nation. New Mexico is one of our most diverse states, which not only preserves its history but celebrates its rich cultural heritage in its everyday life. |
Supplier Spotlight
It's been awhile since I was here, so that's probably why I was moved to feature this great natural attraction this month. A highlight of Oregon's spectacular Columbia Gorge Scenic Byway, Multnomah Falls is a popular stop about midway between Hood River and Portland. The sights are awesome enough from the road, but Lewis & Clark were absolutely blown away when they first saw them from the river over 200 years ago. Their journals are filled with expressions of awe. (Of course it could have had something to do with the fact that they were paddling downstream for the first time since leaving St. Louis!) |
What If?
Frank Capra's classic film, "It's a Wonderful Life" brilliantly portrays the impact just one life can have in the scheme of things. Those of you planning to attend this year's Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup (Sept. 22-27)might be interested in learning more about Peter Norbeck, who not only introduced the first 36 head of bison into the park back in 1914, but created the park itself! If he hadn't been born, would we have any buffalo to round up? Would they even have a park to live in? |
