US 6 Keg Creek Bridge ABC Project Wins America's Transportation Award for Best Use of Innovation in a Small Project

The America's Transportation Awards competition, which is sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, recognizes the best transportation projects by state departments of transportation in three categories: Best Use of Innovation, Under Budget, and Ahead of Schedule.
Iowa DOT's collaboration with SHRP 2 on the $2.7 million US 6 Keg Creek bridge replacement won the Best Use of Innovation award for a small project, which celebrates excellence in innovative management techniques and use of technology. Iowa DOT pilot tested tools from SHRP 2 research that help local builders apply accelerated bridge construction techniques and use their own typical equipment to rapidly replace a deficient bridge. Using the tool kit of standard design and construction concepts reduced construction time from 6 months to 2 weeks.
