Perspectives 2012 Business Luncheon
"Your Business is Our Priority"
Plan to attend Perspectives 2012, a free luncheon for Yuba County-based businesses that will take place Friday, April 27 at the Peach Tree Golf and Country Club beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Two participants per Yuba County business are invited to attend Perspectives 2012 at no cost on a first come, first served basis. After April 15, non-business attendees will be accepted for a $20 admission fee based on seating availability. To reserve a seat, call 530.749.7560 or e-mail here.
The luncheon, hosted by Yuba County and sponsored by Recology and Frank M. Booth (FMB), will feature a keynote talk from Larry Booth, President of FMB. FMB is celebrating 100 years of operating in Yuba County this year.
Fremont-Rideout CEO Theresa Hamilton will talk about the ongoing $225 million hospital and cancer center expansion and improvement project. Yuba County Administrator Robert Bendorf will provide a "State of the County" address regarding local challenges, successes, and opportunities.
"Perspectives 2012 represents our heartfelt appreciation to all the businesses that have made Yuba County their home," stated Bendorf. "Each one plays an important role in supporting our local economy, and we owe a debt of gratitude for the hard work and perseverance displayed by our local business community, particularly in tough economic times."
"This is one of the best business networking functions of the year," noted Hal Stocker, Chairman of the Yuba County Board of Supervisors. "The highlight of every Perspectives luncheon is the selection of a business that exemplifies what it means to be a 'Champion' of Yuba County."
In past years, Cotton Rosser and Naumes have been celebrated as Yuba County Champions with a proclamation and special video presentation at the Perspectives business appreciation luncheons.

Sponsors for Perspectives 2012 include Recology and Frank M. Booth. Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation is also a strategic partner. Neighborhood Stabilization Program
Adding Value to Yuba County Neighborhoods
Three years ago Yuba County participated in the "Neighborhood Stabilization Program" in identifying, buying and refurbishing run-down, foreclosed homes that tend to reduce neighborhood property values, then reselling them to new owners. The first phase of the program was so successful the County was invited to apply for a second round of funding. Yuba County was one of only three jurisdictions statewide awarded additional funding to continue the residential improvement program.
With an additional $4.2 million in funds, the County will redouble its efforts to purchase, repair and resell homes that have moved into foreclosure, and most recently have been bank-owned. The Neighborhood Stabilization Program takes an innovative approach of purchasing homes at bargain prices and then hiring local contractors to complete needed work, including structural improvements, new carpeting, redone kitchens and bathrooms, fresh paint and a landscaping makeover.
Houses are often resold by the County at a loss, but that is part of the design of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Benefits to the community are long-term, with overall property values stabilizing and poised to increase in residential neighborhoods adjacent to the new improvements, and occupied homes provide a fresh injection of property taxes to support local services.
The refurbished homes are available to residents who may not qualify for traditional purchases. The upgraded home sale prices are typically between $70,000 and $110,000.

Reinvestment Plan Approved
East Linda Community Design and Redevelopment
The Yuba County Board of Supervisors adopted the East Linda Reinvestment Plan at a regular board meeting F ebruary 28, 2012. The Plan, prepared by consultant AECOM, is a visioning document providing guidance on land use, transportation, infrastructure, community design and other issues for the current development of the County's Development Code Update. In addition, the Plan will provide a foundation for investment in the community of Linda and will be used in seeking funding for improvements and investment from a variety of sources.
Three "Primary Opportunity Areas" were identified in the Plan including the Peach Tree Mall, a Yuba College Mixed-Use Center and a Goldfields Village Center. Primary Opportunity Areas are those areas where significant new development is most likely to be successful and of greatest benefit to the community. Based on their location and the type of development proposed, Primary Opportunity Areas also have the capacity to create synergies with existing development (such as Yuba College) and to promote additional infill development at nearby properties.
Four secondary areas of interest were identified in the Plan on Avondale Avenue, North Beale Road, Erle Road and the future Goldfields Parkway North, a major connector planned to connect state routes 65 and 70 to highway 20.
More information about the scope and the implementation of the East Linda Reinvestment Plan can be found here. |
